for lets say 30mins of riding. I want to start slow. Also will riding uphill burn more?

I don't know what it would be for you, but for me it would burn about 300 calories in 1/2 hour. Unfortunately, one can eat that much in about two minutes, so it's most effective to eat right too. Here is a calculator you can use:

Oh, and riding uphill does burn more than riding downhill. I'm sure it pretty much averages out though, so don't try to factor that in anywhere. Good night!

It depends on how fast you go and how much resistance you have on your bike probably about 200 calories-uphill will definitly burn more-make sure that you stay hydrated on your bike ride.
