Buddha taught that the source of existence is within all--Christ taught the Kingdom of God is within all. Both taught the only way to realize this universal truth is to overcome your ego which separates you from the rest of existence--and that the ego is based on limited thought--& is changeable and temporary.
Luke 17:20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come,
he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with signs: 21Neither shall they
say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

Some have realized and more are in the process of realizing. But sadly, most will never be able to get beyond the dogma and traditions of the religion.

Same place it's always been. There is only one Awareness, the perception that you are separate and not of this Awareness is an illusion caused by your mind and your five senses. You're there too, you just haven't realized it yet. ((Pangel)) EDIT: Pangel, there is no "us", instead of the western perception of god, Buddhist believe in a non-personified collective consciousness, the Universe as one, and all things are this One, this Self. We believe we have no individual soul, but are a causal chain of events that carry through death to rebirth until we realize that we are not separate from the Self, but we are the Self. Then we are our true form, our true enlightened Self, and we break the cycle of rebirth and stay within the One, unless we decide to be a bodhisattva, one who refuses to enter into the state of Nirvana and continues to be reborn until all suffering is extinguished. So maybe the first Buddha is in I don't know, Iceland somewhere, helping people end their suffering. RAPTOR: I was going to bathe later. Give me a banana. ASKER: Yes, that is a good metaphor.

Reincarnation seems to play a role between the two.

"The mechanism of reincarnation is based on the "Law of Karma," in which good deeds and bad deeds are tallied and used as the basis for determining a person's fate in the next life... Reincarnation typically ends only when one has advanced enough to neither good karma nor bad karma, but to be totally neutral... That is, the end result is the complete annhilation of the finite self. The individual becomes one with the universe."

For Christians and Jews, I believe it's simple black and white. Sin is sin, no matter how you look at it.

Except that the kingdom of God is not the source of existence, God is. Jesus taught that God is personal, Buddha did not, Jesus taught that sin is a real transgression against that personal God, Buddha did not, Jesus taught that the material world had real existence, Buddha taught it was only maya (illusion), Jesus taught resurrection after one life, Buddha taught reincarnation after many, Jesus taught that that belief in him was necessary for salvation, Buddha did not, Jesus taught that there was a hell, Buddha taught that people got endless chances.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - John 14:6

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; - 1Tim 2:5

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. - John 3:18

Jesus Christ rose from the dead, leaving the grave clothes behind. Despite the chief priests' best efforts to secure that tomb, he rose from the dead and was seen by all eleven disciples, who talked with him, ate with him, and handled his body, and was also seen by over five hundred witnesses.

To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: - Acts 1:3

The best anybody can offer are some "convincing proofs" that they may have found the tomb. We have "many infallible proofs" of the resurrection.

Buddha's bones can be produced. He is dead.

I don't think you know what you are talking about, but IF they are even similar; it is because the Ghautama Buddha learned from Jehovah God or in the early "unwitnessed" years of Jesus Christ's life on this earth before He was baptized at age 30 by John the baptizer and before He was proclaimed as The Christ publicly.
The truth was made known always to any seeker, but the Buddha never claimed to be The Christ, The Messiah, The Anointed One of God. Jesus did and HE was sent as Savior of the world and was the ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF THE FATHER.., the WORD made flesh. Christians aren't those who follow the teachings of the Lord Jesus. Christians are those who "die to their flesh", accept Jesus as the Son of God and as Lord over their life and become one with Him. We live the "exchanged life".., He took our sin and our place in death and we receive His life and His righteousness and His heavenly Father as our Father. Many people can believe and follow His teachings and even teach them, but they must have a personal relationship with the LIVING Lord Jesus to BE a Christian: a Christ-one. Then we pray; "Our Father in heaven," meaning: mine and Jesus' Father..., "hallowed be Your name"...

Already have... it's not too difficult to see, since they were both advocates of peace.

The differences is that Christians see Christ as the Son of God, whereas Buddhists don't see Buddha this way. The conflict is not based on material or teaching, but basic doctrine. Luckily, however, the main religious conflicts generally aren't between these two groups.
