because when it comes to homosexuals the U.S government is stupid, i think a gay officer would be just as good as a straight one.

In the U>S> Military Gay Men and Women are not allowed to openly acknowledge their sexual orientation nor act upon it. In many other Western countries they are permitted. Canada, Israel and Great Britain even recruit in the homosexual communities. In The United States however this is not the case because gay people naturally gravitate to ornate costumes and flashy medals and pins. This would be a a deteriment in battle. The Marines did make allowances for the striped pants and the jackets but too many soldiers cut off the sleeves and wore them with just dog tags.
Also since the military live in such close quarters the enlistees would never be able to control their sexual impulses. Boys would do boys etc. This is what happens even among straight people who cannot restrict their behavior and foster brothels and prostitution close to all military bases. Check out Fayetteville N.C. for example. Why even ladies of the night are named "Hookers" after a famous civil war union general who could not dismount unless he was provided with k.p. rations for free. Certainly morale would suffer and unit cohesion since training and battle would have to allow for parades and manouvers with loud music and overwhelming interactions on the dance floor.
This would inevitably require that some be left without a partner. The biggest opposition to a change in this policy has come from the clergy across the land since they would have their own recruitment curtailed. Congregations would be on their own. Gay men and women probably would insist that correct spelling and grammar be practiced unless showtunes became the standard for drills. Gays are generally noisy and could not stand to be quiet. So gay men and women is not aloud in the military at all.

The reason comes from the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice). According to article 125, sodomy is an illegal act in the US military. And the US military includes in it's definition of sodomy homosexual acts by either gender.

Instead of posting the applicable portion of the section here, I'll put a website at the end of my post and you can look it up yourself. I don't wish to be reported for posting inappropriate material.

The don't ask/don't tell policy allows practicing homosexuals to join, as long as they don't make an issue of it. However, if they are caught in the act and reported, they are subject to courts martial and dishonorable discharge.

Gays and lesbians are allowed to join the military. Sexual orientation does not matter...it's just not displayed as much as a man and woman. [ how it's supposed to be ]

Don't Ask. Don't Tell.

Because homosexuality is a defect of the functioning of the sexual attraction mental zones of some individuals, thus a mental disfuntion, which modern liberal mainstream want normal people to accept as been a "normal thing" when it is not, and the military is smart enough to see throught that bullsh...t! and say "no, you have a big mental problem, either fix it or you are not allowed in our organization"...
simple!

They are allowed. The don't ask/don't tell rule is just to keep them from playing grabass in the showers, which would make the new recruits nervous.

Functional illiterates are not "aloud" in today's military, either.

They are allowed, following the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy.

Just don't be overly gay and hit on any of the same sex employees or let it come to light.

First they are not discriminated against in the military. They are allowed to join, just there actions are not welcomed in the public light. So if for example i was bi sexual, I could not tell any one nor could they catch me kissing a chick.
