I have been diagnosed with FMS since2004, and still hav eyet to find anyhthing that helps releive symptoms. I have tried A few different antidepressants that are supposed to help fix the chemical imbalances to correct the sleeping patterns that are needed to heal the muscles from a hard days work. i have tried Effexor, Effexor XR, Wellbutrin, and for the pain i have tried Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Tylenol, Vicodin, and Tramadol (ultram).
The Vicodin worked but Doc's don't like prescribing it due to its addictive nature. The Ultram is okay, but doesn't take it away completley, and it is also a "black box drug" ,meaning that they don't know what the long term affects are yet. Has anyone else that has Fibro found a medicine not already listed that they would reccomend? Desperate for some releif! Thanks for your advice !

I too have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and was given prescription Naproxen and a muscle relaxant; I was also on Effexor XR at the same time. I have not found a drug that works. I no longer take any of the drugs listed above. I take Aleve and Advil by the handful, well not really, but I do take quite a bit of those drugs and they help a little. I have also, unfortunately, gained quite a bit of weight and I am sure that is not helping matters any. But, its hard to exercise and keep active when you feel like you are constantly coming down with the flu. Sometimes the body aches are very severe and my joints act something fierce.

So, to answer your question, no I have not found a drug that works to keep the pain away, it just keeps it bearable.

I have Fibromyalgia and have not found any medication that takes care of everything with it. I take anti inflammatory medication every day and muscle relaxants when the pain is really bad. The only treatment that helps me get rid of Pain successfully is massage therapy. I get this on a regular basis and it's the only thing that helps my body. I count on it far more than I do any medical drug.

I've written an article on Fibromyalgia that might give you self help tips. I've enclosed the link.

Ask your doctor about Lyrica. This is a new medicine that sort of mirrors neurontin. This might just be the "magic pill" you are in search of.

Have you tried a Yahoo search for fibromyalgia + "natural remedies"?

make sure that you're getting plenty of water, exercise and remove the foods associated with inflammation from your diet... also try massage... a specialist can put you on a regimen that can do a world of good .. you do have to keep it up though ... good luck!!
