1] need a bed, dresser or chest of drawers, desk, and desk chair. Suggest a nightstand, a reading chair, and a bookcase.
2] find a bedding set you really like, and get curtains and pillows to match. [ get some brights - metal posters have a lot of black ]
3] pick fav. color from the bedding, and paint walls that color.
4] pick second fav. color for rug/floors, and reading chair.
5] after you arrange all furniture, and throw out all miscellaneous crap, look at wall space. Maybe you could group metal bands together, and rock together, or do them by decade, etc. [ put a band you hate up on cork, and make a dart board ]
6] use any instruments you have as art - guitar, etc. My son saves souveneirs form concerts [ drumsticks, etc ] for his walls; some people make collages of tickets or programs.

Colors: look in your closet and pick the colors from there. Remember, you'll be seeing these colors day in and day out.
Wall art: Into music? Find old vinyl record albums from metal bands and put the covers on the walls. You can hang the records from your ceiling and they look really cool!
Furniture: Metal furniture for a metalhead, right? Also, you could buy a contrasting color of paint when you get your wall paint and paint all your existing furniture. Or buy cheap furniture at thrift stores, sand it and paint it. That way everything matches!

A successful mixture of home decorating patterns, colors, and textures will result in a balanced and beautiful room; the kind of room that makes you feels comfortable the moment you enter it. Gathering samples is a great way to begin. If you are starting with a color, your samples might include fabric, paint chips, wallpaper, carpet, wood, stone, and tile.
