Anxious, energetic, irritable; it's basically speed or amphetamine.

For some reason it has a calming effect on people with ADHD.

I wonder why someone would take a manufactured artificial drug with no known "high" if they didn't need it.
Its a mild stimulant, but doesn't have the same effect as other amphetamines. It would likely create an anxious feeling, similar to ephedrine.

Reported side effects include difficulty sleeping, stomach aches, headaches, lack of hunger, and dry mouth. Less common side effects include palpitations, high blood pressure, and clinical depression.
Ritalin at one time was used to treat depression, but is no longer used for that purpose because those going off the drug sometimes experience a greater state of depression during the time of withdrawal.

Most of the meds that they prescribe for ADHD is amphetamines..which is "speed". In someone with adhd (or add), it has the opposite effect and calms them....but if you do not have the disease - it will most likely make you exciteable, anxious, feel "like you can't sit still", and it may even feel as if your heart is beating "a mile a minute" (which it does increase your heart speed). Many people do abuse this drug. It is not wise to take something that is not prescribed to you. Be careful!
