We all know, and I assume all Christians know about the God presented in the old testament. Killing children, slavery, torture, etc., is all promoted by your so called loving God.
Kill Homosexuals
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)
Death for Fornication
A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)
What is this? This is your God speaking
"Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God." (2 Peter 20-21 NAB)
How come you Xtians ignore this? It is in the Bible.
The God you are imagining is just the way you WANT God
to be, yet He is not.

If you were about to deny the old testament:
till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. None other then Jesus said so.

Please study your own Bible enough before even praising the Lord. These vicous commands were merely indicted by evil men portraying God as intimidating to force society to their rules. There never was a God, please enlighten yourself.

What's wrong with it? God knows that these sinful people will never turn their hearts toward Him. Why let them live? They will cause more harm than good. We do know the old testament. Don't think we never read it. We do.

You can read the bible and interpret it however you choose. But if you knew of the Christian Faith, you would also know that Jesus Christ came to fullfill the old testament. In the old testament there was no way other than sacrafice, to "cover" our sins. So penalties were harsh. Look at the old Pagan pratices, they were harsh also, but you choose not to bring that into the discussion. After Jesus Christ died on the cross, his blood has covered and paid for our sins. Hence bringing in the "Age of Grace". Now if you simply read the bible and do not want understanding of what it says, thats your fault. If you want to pick and choose what you want to start arguments over that too is your fault. Its simple understanding what the ENTIRE bible says, not just picking a few scriptures out of 66 books.
If God is so bad, then why would he have sent Jesus Christ to cleans us of our sins? God knew no man, other than Jesus, could live up to the old testament levitical laws.
The old testament also says that we shouldn't cut our facial hair, eat pork, or have tattoos. We are not picking and choosing what we believe. The old levitical laws are no longer "in effect" for the true Christian. Although there are some very good and healthy choices to be learned from the old testament, Christians are not bound by them, due to Jesus Christ.
So please, have some UNDERSTANDING of what you speak. Reading and re-typing does not mean you understand it.

I don't know what your point really is either but God specifies in the bible that he is to be feared. That's what it comes down to. This judgment is not put upon these people by those on earth but by God only. It also states in the bible that there should be no masturbation or letting a man's sperm spill where it would not allow reproduction. That explains the gay thing. He destroyed Soddam and Gomorrah for living lifestyles that were against his wishes. It sounds to me like you are a nasty and bitter person who is not very popular with people. Go to church and see if you can't figure these things out in their correct contexts. Your own mind is your own worst enemy. God loves you, too.

Psalms 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
Stop being a fool atheist. You're just saying that because that's your lame excuse to commit sin. Every atheist wants to believe that there isn't a God so that they can continue with their sins.
Romans 3:3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
Romans 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.
When you die in your sins you'll regret that you have not believed in God.
You still have a chance. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior. Repent of your sins and turn away from them completely.
To GOD be the Glory forever and ever. Amen!!!!

Athiests must READ...
The laws in the OT were only for followers of the faith, in the case of the OT, Judaism. It was not for anyone who followed Baal, or Isis, or any other religion. DUH.
Also, slavery, torture, etc. is not promoted in any place.
Yes, there was death penalty for various infractions. This kept society pretty stable during a time of human history when life was short, difficult, and violent. You will find similar death penalties in all similar codes of law throughout the Middle East, including Hammurabi's laws. Harsh, but useful.
Finally, Jesus has "redeemed us from the curse of the law. Being made (Jesus) a curse for us, as it is written, cursed is every one who hangs on a tree (the cross)." So basically, the law was overturned by "grace" meaning forgiveness.
So it is you who does not know, does not understand
But what I say will not help, if you have turned your mind off.

Okay , you didn't even ask a question. What's your point? If you want to preach, at least do so by answering a question....
It also says in the Bible, not to cast your pearls before swine....meaning don't force it where people are not receptive. it also tells you to obey the laws of the land. So what are you doing on an ask/answer forum preaching and basically breaking the rules?
Name calling? now that should really make people listen. And to use an X in place of Christ? Not cool either. If you are going to rant in his name at lease grant him the courtesy to spell out his name........
You want to debate the Old Testament? ASK A QUESTION.

God is JUST and MERCIFUL. Over 4,000 years ago men, women, culture and lifestyles were very different. God does punish people but in the New Testament He shows us new ways to find His GRACE through His Son Jesus which has freed us from the many rules and condemnation from the Old Testament, which we must still learn from.
God does deserve glory and praise, when you give your life entirely to Him He will allow you to understand this verses better and even more His love .
"But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved." (Ephesians 2:4-5 )

Interesting... Back in the Old Testament times, all this was considered a good punishment by the people and this is how they were convinced adequate consequences has been faced with. Today, in our eyes, this seems very wrong. Back in those times, though, it wasn't considered so...taboo as in our times now. Besides, homosexuality and fornification was considered EXTREMELY bad in those times, so consequences were naturally far worse.
Slavery back then wasn't considered labeling people inferior to you due to race but as a social class to those who couldn't sustain with the amount of money they had. So they sold themselves so that they could live. Taking in slaves back then actually BENIFETS the slave in the way that it doesn't have to pay for food and other things. Hope that explains some things. Oh, I am a Seventh Day Adventist, not Catholic. That might explain some things.

Why are you bothering with something that you choose not to understand? There are answers to your questions one internet search away, but already you reject them and then make posts like this one trying to cast doubt on the character of God. You are making a mistake because your hate is showing.
Don't you understand that belief in God is even beyond just reading the Bible. You read, but you do not understand. You comment on God, whom you do not even know. Then you become mad at those who know God experientially. You atheists have The God Delusion, we Christians have The God Experience. Face it, theirs nothing you can do about that.

Those weren't the commandments Jesus was referring to. Jesus himself says there are only two commandments: Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself. They sum up the 10 commandments. Any of the laws you are referring to are old Levitical laws that we no longer need to follow now that Christ has come.
And the verse from 2 Peter is referring to prophecies, not the old laws.
