First, entrapment is law enforcement CAUSING an otherwise unwilling participant to commit a crime. Yes police are allowed to lie in the course of their jobs, but I don't think like the one girl said, "You're kids missing...." If they have reason to believe a person has committed a crime (or just feel like they have the right person) and they are questioning them, they can tell them they have evidence such as fingerprints, DNA, etc. whether they do or not.
I doubt that a church would be willing to fork over the confessional booth though because of the priviledged information thing.
Good question.

Great. You're getting legal advice from "The Simpsons". If something like that happened in real life it would be immediately tossed.
Sheesh !

No, police can not violate people that expect to have confidentiality. This includes Priests, Lawyers, and Doctors... However, those people, if not police can tell the police what is going on if it is necessary.

Cops actually did something similar a few years back and they showed it on TV. People with arrest warrants were told they had won a big prize, and for them to go somewhere to pick up their prize. They were arrested instead.

Wiseone - really? I never knew that... that wouldn't be fair, like "Ma'am, you;re kid's been missing, come down to the station. Kidding, kidding, we're booking you on drug charges."
Anyways...yes, it was funny on the Simpsons, but that would be kinda cruel thing to do, wouldn't it?

No. What you tell someone you believe to be a priest in confession is a lot like what you tell your doctor or shrink.

Obvious answer- don't tell your priest anything.
Cops can and do lie...ask any undercover cop- if you can believe him.
Simpsons, hmmmm?
