I couldn't help but notice that an unborn child is not equal to or same as the mother's body. The unborn child has his own body... his own heart, his own blood and blood type and so on. So, why all this talk about, "it's my body"? Once a woman becomes pregnant, she has a living body inside of her, connected only through the placenta.

the only solorose: If you are a nurse, you of all people should know that a 5 week old baby has a beating heart, blood pumping throughout his body, developing organs, and arm and leg buds...while this human may not appear human yet, it doesn't sound like just a "blob of cells" to me that needs to be expelled.

A woman has control over her body, and the right to choose what she does with it, however when she becomes pregnant it is no longer only her body - she is sharing it with an unborn child who should be entitled the same rights to live or die as any other living being.
If she didn't want to become pregnant then she shouldn't have had sex in the first place... in the instance if it is rape - why not consider having the child and putting it up for adoption. Make something good come from the horrible event and give a child to someone who would love it and care for it. There are millions of couples who long to have children and can't

The mother and baby form a dyad. They bond right after conception. As the baby moves down the Fallopian tube to the uterus, every time she bumps into the wall of the tube, hormonal messages are exchanged. Once implanted, she sends stem cells into her mother's blood stream, where they migrate to her mother's brain and lodge there. Our bodies were designed to protect our children. The only way you can do an abortion is to harm our body in some way. Because of the bond that exists, abortion represents a deep invasion into the mother's body. The result will be emotional trauma no matter how settled the mother is in her decision. No woman should ever have to consider The Decision. Because of the deep invasion, abortion is really medical rape. Why so many people have embraced medical rape as a right is a total mystery to me. And before you tell me that she consented to it, I should remind you that the vast majority of women don't even want an abortion, but they don't feel they have any choice. So much for the right to choose! We owe it to women to provide better answers so no woman ever has an abortion she doesn't want, and no woman is ever coerced, either by circumstances, or by people.

Am I the only one to see one thing being said and then a recant in the detail. You've got to figure what side you want to be on and stay there. Unless you have multiple personalities!
If I had a uterus and ovaries, instead of these balls and penis I might be able to experience the joy of having a child. But alas, I just have to remain male! A day after pill should make this process less charged since there hasn't been major cell division in the blastocyst. I think that women should ask their gynecologist or family Doctor if they would prescribe the day after pill and get them to sign a form attesting to that. The same with a pharmacy.

It doesn't bother me so much, just so long as we have a definite answer from the medical community as to what point in fetal development that the fetus becomes its own entity.
It does bother me that those decisions are not being made by the medical community, but by courts and legislatures. Lawyers and accountants have no business making very advanced medical decisions.
Personally I agree with you, but if the medical community worldwide came to some kind of a consensus, I would stand by their decision. As it is now too many doctors are at both extremes, and not for moral reasons but for physiological ones.

A responsible women would take the right steps to not becoming pregnant. That baby did not ask to be born or killed. A baby is a person just like you and me. If you don't wanna carry the baby, close your legs. To the women who said she didn't wanna be an incubator, maybe you should spend that .25 cents and buy a condom.

I agree with you. The first person who answered this obviously wasn't paying attention to the details of your question. A life within the womb is not part of the woman's body. Just as that life, once born, is not the personal property of that woman who birthed the child. Human beings are not personal property...and if you try to treat your child like he or she is, just let me inform your local Children's Protective Services and see how the government will micromanage your life afterward!
Imagine if the mother-to-be and the male donor had taken responsibility before the helpless child was placed within the mother...no that would be too mature.

There can be no doubt that a fetus is a human being, but that cannot give it unlimited rights as against those of the mother, who will have to ingest an extra 50,000 calories to bring it to term and be responsible for it for years afterward. A compromise is necessary.

sorry, but until viability the fetus is a parasite, an extension of the body of the woman. she has the right to have this fetus removed if she doesn't want it inside her. it's not a person, therefore has no right to use the woman's body against her will.

When a woman is carrying a child, she is no longer responsible for just her life, but also for the life of her child. When women chose to end the life of their child, it is rarely because they are unable to carry the baby to full term. It is usually because the child was conceived unexpectedly.
So now the woman is a mother with her child safely hidden from harm. What kind of a mother will she be to her child?
This site shows the age and development of the unborn child from conception until full term or delivered early and placed in prenatal care.

What happens when the surgeon is unsuccessful and the child is born crying?
For Christian women:
"For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed, and in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them." (Psalm 139:13-16, NKJV)
"When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit…[saying] ‘As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.'" (Luke 1:41, 44, NIV)
"Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker, to him who is but a potsherd among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'He has no hands?' Woe to him who says to his father, 'What have you begotten?' or to his mother, 'What have you brought to birth?' This is what the LORD says—the Holy One of Israel, and its Maker: Concerning things to come, do you question Me about My children, or give Me orders about the work of My hands?" (Isaiah 45:9-11, NIV)
"Behold, children are a gift of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward." (Psalm 127:3, NASV)
