Every time i throw something at him he always goes for the item but he never fetches it. The only thing he does is go for the item but he only sniffs it how do i teach him?

What worked for my dog was having 2 people on each side throw the ball or what ever and have the people call to him and reward every time he brings it to the person he will get the hang of it after a lot of repetition. just have patience OK

Its lots of patience, no shouting at the dog and just by repeating similar words, your dog will soon respond. Like I said lots of patience but its worth the wait.

What kind of dog?
Some dogs simply aren't that interested in fetching.

get a konga toy and put the treats in them, when he brings it to you take out the treat and reward him!
