I am not including the situation where the fetus is severely deformed or even cases of rape/incest, but in cases where the fetus is healthy and the parents just simply do not want to go through with it for whatever reason (not the right time or whatever.) It is these kinds of reasons that make up the majority of abortions. They are not the life saving kind as we are made to believe, but by middle class people that do not want another child. Women with family incomes between $30,000 and $59,999 obtain 38.0% of all abortions and and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient. © Copyright 1998, The Alan Guttmacher Institute. (www.agi-usa.org)
Do these parents, that clearly do not want their child and know of the long waiting lists of people willing to adopt babies, have abortions to save face because it's a little easier on the pride than adoption?

KP Cares: Your story breaks my heart. But, you're right; most women abort for selfish reasons. I feel for you and your struggles. I pray that God will give you a child to love and raise, and that all the pro choice women out there will read your comments and stick a sock in it. The majority of women are using abortion as birth control and it's sickening, but pro choicers are fighting for abortion as if it is moral, upright and ethical. It shouldn't even be considered a medical procedure; it goes against everything doctors are trained to do: which is save a life - not purposefully destroy it. If it weren't for people like us, doctors would still be performing partial birth abortions. I say keep up the good work raising the awareness of the gruesome killing of unborn babies, and one day America might actually be rid of abortion once and for all.

Being a woman who was unable to have my own children, you could guess how I feel about abortion vs adoption... In addition to my own (selfish) concerns, it makes me ill to think about how disposable we've allowed life to become. To be able to toss aside a life because it is "inconvenient" is disgusting! The unborn life did not ask to be created.... why must people be so lazy that they don't utilize birth control and use abortion as a 'type' of birth control instead? Although I usually take no joy in another's pain, when someone I know had multiple abortions and then found herself sterile (secondary to scar tissue, presumably) when she "decided" it was "a good time" to have her family - it was a challenge for me not to mouth off about reaping what you sow -- Pride cometh before a fall-- I feel your frustration, thanks for listening to me too!

Yes, adoption is better than abortion...life is better than death.
But, if a person would have an abortion for convenience, then they see their unborn child as non-human...not as a life. Therefore, the idea of being inconvenienced by 9 months of pregnancy is certainly out of the question. They would have to believe that the fetus they carry is truly a human being in order to go through the hassle of a pregnancy.
Anyone who considers abortion a right and does not have a problem with it will always choose it over adoption. Sad but true.

Saying that abortion is easier on the pride than adoption is ludicrous. Many women have abortions and live with the shame and regret their entire lives. I think a lot of women get an abortion because they simply cannot see themselves carrying a child for 9 months and then giving it away to strangers. I believe they also abort rather then choose adoption because the pregnancy was an accident and they don't want to have to carry to term and explain to EVERYONE they know what their babies future is. Contrary to popular belief, women who give their children up for adoption are not looked favorably upon by society. The adoptive parents are thankful, but everyone else in their life suddenly has a new view of the girl who got knocked up and gave her baby away. Suddenly this woman becomes labeled by society and her private life becomes public scandal. By choosing abortion, no one, not even the father has to know about her mistake and she can move on, privately. I'm not against adoption, I'm not against abortion, I'm for a woman's right to choose.

Abortion is taking a defenseless life.Birth control is the answer to an unwanted pregnancy. Not using abortion as birth control is the right answer.
Abortion is a convenient form of birth control for some.

My personal belief? It's up to the woman.
I have known many, many women who have had abortions. A relatively small number regret it later and feel a sense of loss. I have known a number of people who have born the child and put it up for adoption. Every single one without exception has suffered terribly from lifelong guilt and loss.
Does this mean that nobody should bear the child to full term and then put it up for adoption? No, not at all. For those who feel that that is the best course for them then I encourage them to do so. But if they decide to abort rather than go through nine months of pregnancy followed by adoption then I support them in that choice too. It's not up to me to decide.
I certainly wouldn't tell them to carry the fetus to term and then adopt just because there's a big demand for babies. There are a lot of children who need homes, just because the preference is for babies is no reason to market your own.

You've forgotten once small piece.
Right or wrong some women for whatever reason do not what to carry a child for 9 months.
I'm not agreeing or disagreeing but in order to put a child up for adoption for some wonderful family to raise....the woman has to carry the child for 9 months first.

I'm only for abortion, when there are deformations or the mother was raped or/and is too young to go through the pregnancy without risking her health.
But the problem is, that an unwanted child is not automatically adopted, the orphanages are stuffed all over the world! The solution is simply to avoid unwanted children in the first place! Don't preach abstinence to teenagers, that's like telling a hungry man not to eat! Give them condoms!!

That would be like asking if death is better than life. Of course abortion is not better than any alternative. It is not a choice it is a child and a life. God does not make mistakes every abortion is a mistake.

I hear some anger. Here's the thing: whatever reason a person has an abortion is their business because they have to go through with it. Not you, not me. I'm not going to judge. I don't agree with some people getting abortions like it's a form of birth control. It's not. But while you are up here talking about there are so many people waiting to adopt a baby, that's a lie. There are so many kids growing up in the foster care system that are perfectly healthy and fine and no one adopts them for reasons like race or age. I can't say all the reasons why people have abortions, but I doubt saving face is one of them.

If abortion "has" to happen, then it should be done before the first trimester is over. If they haven't made a decision by then, then either they are really too young and naive to know enough to take the pregnancy test .... or, they already have made their decision.
As to adoption, I believe every child deserves to be loved and every deserving couple should have a child to love if that's what they want in their hearts.
