First...well I recomend the Bible. Why? Because the Bible is the most potent weapon an atheist will have to prove that there is no God.

Second...try reading some of Giesler, Mcdowell and Archer's book. Here we can prove what belief in God have done to a human mind.

Third, there are books out there that can guide you to a more logical prespective in god belief. Try books that were written by Sam Harris, Michael Martin and Richard Dawkins. Oh and don't forget "The Demon Hunted World" by the late Carl Sagan.

Good luck.

The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins -Describes the gene as the basis for evolutionary transformations.

Why I Am Not A Christian, by Bertrand Russell

The Origin Of Species, by Charles Darwin -Just as powerful today as it was one-hundred-fifty years ago.

Letter To A Christian Nation, by Sam Harris -A concise, well written criticism of religion. Criticism that's been a long time coming, says I.

Guns, Germs, and Steel, by Jared Diamond -A revolutionary look at the rise of human civilizations, and riveting attack on ideas of racism to boot.

What kinds of things do you like to read? I recommend "Clan of the Cave Bear" by Jean Auel, "The Godfather" by Mario Puzo, anything by R.A. Salvatore or Robert Aspirin, "Frankenstein" series by Dean Koontz.

If you're looking to refute Christians, there's a good book called "If You Take Jesus, I'll Take G-d"

- Guns, Germs and Steel, by Jared Diamond.
- The Omnivore's Dilemma, by Michael Pollan.
- When the Sky Fell: The Search for Atlantis, by Rand Flem-Ath and Rose Flem-Ath
- Fist Stick Knife Gun, by Geoffrey Canada

None of those have anything to do with atheism, though.

I am not an atheist. I feel I need to make a disclaimer because nut jobs have accused me of PRETENDING to be an atheist.

I am reading the "Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood. This wonderful book is an eye opening illustration of the dangers of religious fanaticism.

These are not on atheism or religion, but I highly recommend the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. They are historical fiction books about the Napoleonic wars.

EXCEPT WITH DRAGONS!

So. Much. Fun! Happy reading!

In what topic..? Education, entertaiment, philosophy..??

Any of the mainstream scientific journals such as Scientific American etc would get the mental ball rolling on up to date discoveries and current scientific endevours.

The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins is a great expose' of the logic and politics behind religions, particularly christianity.

I find the books dealing with human evolution very interesting, not just the overwhelming evidence and science behind what is now understood, but the history of this field too..

I highly recommend "Like Rolling Uphill" by Dianna Narcisso... it is great introduction to atheism without the typical anger shown by some atheist authors.

If you want to be honest, aside from reading some of the recommended books from atheists, you should also read books from god-believing people, to be balanced and get your own opinion.
For instance, books by Josh McDowell,
or go to www.christian-thinktank.com

Just if you are honest and want to weight the two sides...
