What are some good color combinations for a guys APT?

I have a new APT and need to replace the rug, couch and paint. What are some good color combinations for a guys APT going for a modern look?

1] pick your favorite color [ blue, red, green ]
2] pick your favorite set of neutrals: white, gray and black;
OR ivory, caramel, and coffee brown.
3] do bedroom walls or bedding in your fav. color [ say sapphire blue ], and the opposite [bedding or walls ] in a neutral from your group. Say, bright blue and gray print bedding/curtains/pillows. Add silver framed art, bright blue and gray small accessories: lamps, flowerpot, candle, ornaments. Get a set of lamps - for nightstand, or on dresser.
4] Then do living room with white walls, black [ leather? ]
couch and at least one chair, and blue/white/black design rug.
Add bright blue pillows, blue in some of the artwork, and flowerpots/candles etc. A set of standing lamps is great for living rooms, and will come in handy for any home.[ Brushed chrome looks fabulous for lamps! ]
5] keep kitchen as clean and white as possible. Put away everything you don't use every day. Keep out: a cool cookie jar, ceramic beer stein, something that doesn't look like you bought it on a whim.
6] Buy a decent shower curtain - no nudies, no see-through.
Choose a print of blue, gray, white, and/or black. Buy a rug in one of the dark colors. Get matching bath accessories - soap dish, toothbrush holder, trash can, toilet brush [ yes, you need a toilet brush; yes, accessories come in black; yes, you can get plain ones.] in blue, gray, black, or silver. Select a short, fat candle for the bathroom decor [ will come in handy ].
PS: any finishing touches in guy colors and style will give you maturity points with ladies.
PPS: if you use the ivory/tan/brown combo, use brass framing
for best effect.
PPPS: macho accessories -
plants - rubber plant, cactus, any small tree [ fake ones work! ]
candles - iron or wood stands, squat candles [ no flower smells ]
