Yes. They seem to think I should be uneducated, ignorant, judgmental, cruel, and evil.

And that's just what other Christians think of me as a Catholic. I'm sure the general population's preconceptions of me as a Catholic Christian are much worse.

I know they do. For example, I've been judged a lot by people on R&S. The weird thing is, no one knows me and yet they judge me on very little to no information. It's a big problem for everyone. One would think that the Atheists would give me a hard time but that is rarely the case. The sad truth is that the harshest judges are other Christians (not all but some). It's really depressing when your brought up believing that Jesus loved us so much, that he died for our sins, but then you see all these Chrisitians bashing you for not being "their kind of Christian." If any of you come across a Christian who is judgemental and/or whose words are hurtful, keep in mind they are going against Jesus who said, "Love thy neighbour." Jesus never said, "Love thy Christian neighbour only." Plus the Bible says something about, "Remove the plank from YOUR OWN EYE, before you try to remove a chink from another's eye." and "Judge NOT."

P.S. My pre-conceived idea is, "We should all try to get along."

Absolutely, and they should. As a Christian, I should do everything in my power to uphold a good testimony. Otherwise I would be considered a hypocrite and could push someone away from the faith instead of drawing them in.

On a side note though, if no one had a pre-conceived idea about how Christians should behave, then you would never hear "That's not very Christian of you".

I am not Christian, but I don't need to be to tell you that a lot of people have pre-conceived ideas about how pretty much anybody of certain beliefs (or lack there of) should act. Its rather aggravating actually. Makes me want to sometimes bash my own head into my keyboard.

I have no religion personally, but here's my view from the outside. Remember that I'm generalizing and discussing how many feel and behave, not all.

Many Christians spend a lot of time criticizing the conduct of others. They criticize homosexuality, sexuality outside of marriage, bad language, drinking alcohol, enjoying secular entertainment, and generally living outside of the teachings of Christianity. This type of Christian will tell us that we are living immoral lives because we are not Christ centered.

Many of us respond that the Christians doing the criticizing of others are not living exemplary lives themselves even though they are supposedly Christ centered. To this they invariably respond: Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven. But this is hypocritical. If we are being told that we are living our lives wrong because we aren't Christian then, logically, they should be living their lives right because they are. If they, too, are living their lives with flaws then, to avoid being hypocritical, they shouldn't blame our flaws on our lack of being Christian.

Nor, frankly, are we too keen on their dictating what is right or wrong based on their religion. But that's the answer to another question.

Oh yes, of course they do. They think we should be perfect and never say or do anything they consider wrong. But we are human, and once in a while,, we lose our temper or gossip or whatever.....we try and sometimes we slip but considering the pitfalls in our way,,,I think we are a great group. I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ..even if we have disagreements...we all have to work out our own salvation..they are trying just like I am...

Yes. I believe that part of it is right, but I also believe that it is hypocritical for an atheist to quote scripture out of what htey regard as a fairytale book and use it against me. It just reaffirms my knowledge that atheists are nihilistic jerks who only care about themselves and other atheists.

Definitely! That's why, as Christians, we should always try to present ourselves in a manner that we can be proud of. We should live what the Bible teaches us to believe, by loving and honoring God in everything we do, and loving our neighbor, treating everyone with kindness and forgiveness.
