i have a 88 cutlass ciera i want to put after market speaker in the left side has yellow/brown wires the right side has light blue and dark blue wire which are positive and negative

In a GM, the darker wire color is typically positive in the rear, and the lighter color is positive in the front. In your case, that means brown and dark blue are the positive wires, since you're looking at the rear speakers.

You cannot determine speaker wiring polarity with a test light, or by looking at the speaker.

Use a test light and see what wires have power to them.

if the speaker first goes up tehn it is hooked up right, if it goes down first it is wrong. also if there is a small stripe on the wire that is the one that will be negative.
