I'm asking this because so many of you like to say, "Oh, I'm not judging, I'm...!"
It seems this excuse is used for everything.
Keep in mind that, unless you can cite specific passages of the Bible to define 'judgment' as it is always used, you cannot just make up your own definition. If you cannot fall back on the Bible, you must use the dictionary.

brian: I didn't say that the Bible DOES define judgment. It's just that everyone likes to use the word differently, despite the fact that the word has meaning as found in the dictionary. If the Bible provides a specific definition for it, that is what it should mean to Christians. Otherwise, people can't just make up their own definitions for the word.

kait: Nice answer.
tripsbaby: Well, we're kind of talking about different kinds of judgment if you're going to say my own question's phrasing is judgmental. There is a definition for judgment; the word does have meaning. If you make up your own definition for it, you are contradicting the language itself...

To me judging is saying all atheists are bad people and they are all going to hell....First off we know all atheists are not bad people..many of them are nice we just don't agree with each others beliefs...second even if I think in my head "well if they don't change they may go to hell"...It is not my place to ever say that to someone because I am not God... He is the only one that will ever say someone is going to Heaven or Hell..according to my beliefs and what I read in the Bible (which is important to me).
I do not have to like the sin that someone commits, but I should not Judge a persons character on the sin that they are committing...because I sin to and sin is sin...my sin is not less of a sin than anyone elses..no matter what their sin is (I base sin on what sin is defined as in the Bible)...
I do make personal judgements on individual people in the real world...sometimes you just don't like someone and someone doesn't like you.It does not mean that I am judging them as though I am God I just sometimes don't care for certain human beings in the world..maybe judging isn't the right word for that here is an example of what I mean..lets say I don't care for someone who happens to be of a different ethnic background than my own we just don't click...it doesn't mean I am going to "judge" every single person of that race based upon one interaction with a human that I just didn't get a long with.. Hope this made sense..and that I responded correctly.

An example of judgment would be if I told you that you are wrong for what you believe in, or how you chose to live your life. Saying "unless you can cite specific passages of the Bible to define 'judgment' as it is always used, you cannot just make up your own definition" in a way is judging a person telling them how to answer your question.
There is judgment everywhere, you can't escape from it if you wanted to. Even people that are dead still get judged.

In Matthew 7:2-5, Jesus warns against judging someone else for their sin when you yourself are sinning even worse. That is the kind of judging Jesus commanded us not to do. If a believer sees another believer sinning, it is their Christian duty to lovingly and respectfully confront the person with their sin (Matthew 18:15-17). This is not judging, but rather pointing out the truth in hope of bringing repentance in the other person (James 5:20). We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). We are to proclaim what God's Word says about sin. 2 Timothy 4:2 instructs us, "Preach the Word ; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage — with great patience and careful instruction." We are to "judge" sin, but always with the goal of presenting the solution for sin and its consequences - the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:6).

Who says the bible defines judgment? Does it define sex, Cross, hill?
I didn't know the bible had a glossary in the back(maybe I should look again).
Judging is a way of making a opinion...whether you think something is right or wrong.
Also, you must remember in the bible it doesn't say "You can't just others" it says "judge not lest you be judged" so if someone starts making judgmental remarks about my religion, or myself, then it's fair game on whichever topic they bring up.

there are different kinds....
with God, judgement is justice....so whatever you have done right or wrong.....you will reap from those actions....reward or punishment....
with man, there can be righteous judgement, and unrighteous judgment.....
righteous = when there is just cause for a decision or action..such as seeing someone in danger and deciding to fight for the victim.....we are to do this.....to protect the innocent.....or to help someone realize they are hurting themselves...(ex trying to help a drug addict)
unrighteous = criticizing others for the same sin you have yourself...and you have not repented either....
2Ch 19:6 And said to the judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for the LORD, who [is] with you in the judgment.
Isa 1:23 Thy princes [are] rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
Jer 5:28 They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
Mat 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
Luk 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
Jhn 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
1Cr 4:3 But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.

Now here's my opinion.
No one except God has the right to tell another person that they are in the wrong or (the thing that I DESPISE some Christians for doing) that they are going to hell. The only exception is when the other person has honestly asked the Christian's opinion. We still must speak in love.
I am a Christian who loves people of all races and religions, loves homosexuals, and tries to learn about all cultures and belief systems. After all, God loves everyone, shouldn't we?

It is terrible.
"(In extreme persecution, the seat of the Holy Roman Church will be occupied by Peter the Roman, who will feed the sheep through many tribulations, at the term of which the city of seven hills will be destroyed, and the formidable Judge will judge his people. The End.)"

Psalms 9:8 And he shall judge the world in rightousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in the uprightness. This means he won't judge you by how you look or how wealthy you are or how many pimples you have or by what you wear or what race you are.

Judging is to make a condemnation of a person.
I am not qualified, nor called to condemn anyone.
I am called to be one who judges evil. In other words, to discern against wickedness. When I do so, it is to show the light, not to curse the darkness.
Men love darkness because their deeds are evil.

Stating what you are doing or believing compared to what the bible teaches is not judging. If you have a problem with what a Christian is saying you need to talk to God about it not them.
