I was just wondering about the things we do to "make ends meet" vs. how we truly feel about the person we are. I am in the middle of a career change, and I 'm going from one line of work that was "not me" to another line of work that is very much the same. I'm just wondering if your path belongs to you, or the person that you "stettled" for.

The day I didn't feel fulfilled at my last job I was gone.

We only get one life, I try to live it on my terms as best I can.

I'm not sure about a path that was 'not my own' but I have certainly walked on and suddenly realised that I was not where I was 'meant to be'.

At these points I found that 'life' then contrived to push me back on path. The first time was through my inheriting some money, secondly through 'realisation' and the third time through my job and I becoming 'incompatible'(!)

Since I have fifteen (or more *sigh*) 'working' years left I fully expect to wake up one day and think '*aargh!* I don't want this!' again. Because we each change as we grow (older) and sometimes our paths simply can't keep up with us. But right now I feel I'm 'on track'!

But I think everyone is different. Some I am sure have a very high threshold for friction. Others get the urge to quit as soon as the slightest feeling of being a square peg in a round hole strikes. I think it also relates to how happy one is in the other areas of ones life. Good friends, loving family and a satisfying 'extra-curricular' life make a tedious job much more bearable!

But wherever you are, as squirt says, eventually the path becomes your own. Whether it is the one you chose or simply 'settle' for is up to you.

You sure know how to get under someones skin. lol. That's all I used to know. Took me awhile to see it. I've gotten most of mine back. Still got a little ways to go yet, but I'm getting there. Tremendous question! Thanks. Compromise on a temporary basis will hold you till things are right. Not selling out, just doing what must be done for now, knowing things are changing just because you want them to change.
It's like once you see a problem and are pliable to change, it takes on a life of its own of its own accord. Pretty cool, really.
Then, one step at a time, your life, your path becomes your own again.

I work at a job I detest (well, I like the work, but dislike who I work for) to keep a roof over my head. But I bust my hump in the evenings and weekends with schoolwork trying to get more barganing power to wrestle back onto my own path. It doesn't matter that I'm not there now, as long as I keep up working toward it I'm happy.

Oh, I've done this many times. In fact, even after I found my own path, and it was clear in front of me, I've strayed onto the paths of other people, thinking I'd find a "short cut."

The best advice is this... life is about finding out what works best for YOU, and then sticking to in.

You can walk the path of another; although it will change the outcome of your end.

To be honest, however, you should go into a line of work that you enjoy.

Life is filled with challenging situations and we must eat, this often makes us follow paths that might not otherwise be our personal choice. When we find ourselves in this situation all we can do is the very best job that can be accomplished, better we have our pride even if it is without our hearts desire.

My life was forever scared when I was a young woman. I spent 14 years after that drunk most of the time.

My path has been to just survive. Put one foot in front of the other and survive.

I did that. For years and years. Absolutely hated the job that brought in the money.
best part of twenty years ago I started the process of escaping and, as I came more and more to my own 'path' I became more and more happy.

I think the path you take is your own, wether you like it or not, after all YOU are on it, you chose it for some reason or another, and I think thats how you know where your priorities lie.

If you want to lead an authentic life, one must choose their own path... my path belongs to me, but it was not easy.

College at age 25 with two small children and a husband with multiple sclerosis...

This is your one shot... who do you want to be?
