What I did is skip around the Bible and read different books at different times. Only the Pentateuch (Gen - Deut) and the Kings series (1 Sam - 2 Chron) is actually done in chronological order anyway, so it really doesn't matter. For instance, the first book I read was the Apocalypse (Revelation), then the Acts, then Isaiah, then Genesis, then Hosea, then Luke, and so on. I just checked off books as I finished them, and within 4 months and 29 days, I had finished the whole Bible.

First get either the KJV or NAS version. I recommend to start with the Gospel of John and then go to Romans. One more piece of advice, every time you read it ask God to forgive your sins, cleanse your heart and open up your understanding. He holds the key to His word, but will give liberally if asked with a heart truly searching for Him. To begin seeing how the Bible ties together, you might read John chapter 1 and Genesis chapters 1 & 2. It is shallow reading that has so much depth we will never understand all. But it is great when God rolls back the curtain even a little bit! Like the word work was also the only word then to mean energy. And the word translated 'made' meant made from nothing. So if we only read it as 'all the energy He made from nothing.' This says all the world is a form of energy. Isn't this the same thing Einstein said in -> E = M * C^2? When it says He rested from all the energy He created (quit making), isn't that the conservation of energy law? And always Genesis says He and in John it says the He was Jesus. May God bless you in your search for His truth.

Most Christians have never read the Bible all the way through. Or really even studied it. They lie and say they do but they haven't.
I was a Christian and when I finally ACTUALLY READ the Bible from beginning to end and studied it afterward very closely I became atheist.
So Please READ IT. Don't be a Christian who has never read the Bible like most of them. My personal contention is this. If you can ACTUALLY READ the Bible and believe what it says and condone the actions of the Biblical god. Then you must fall under 2 categories.
1. Congenitally Stupid
or
2. One of the worst humans who has ever walked the earth.
That's why I'm now atheist. I knew it was bull-crap after I studied it in very close detail after really reading it.
Christianity doesn't WANT you to read it. That's why they only read the nicey nice parts in church and skip over all the rest. INCLUDING the parts that would make it contradict what they are trying to teach you.
The Bible is the work of mankind and anyone can tell that if it is actually read all the way through.

There are many "sets of suggestions" for this process. My husband and I have read through the Bible many times and many versions.
We LOVE the King James Version and/or the New Living Translation (not to be confused with the Living Bible).
We read two or three chapters in the Old Testament and then one in the New Testament and he reads aloud first one evening and I read first the next evening. Also, reading aloud makes it go into your heart and helps you remember it. Each time we read, we see and hear things we have never seen the other times.
Try again. Another way to break YOUR delima is to read all the New Testament first, the Psalms second and read the Proverbs "of the day".., like there are 31 of them, so on the 4th day of the month, read Proverb 4, then go through Isaiah, then a short book like; Nahum in the Old Testament, (mark your books when you finish them) then Jeremiah..., but since you have read NEARLY through Genesis several times, begin where you left off with it. It IS important to read the first 5 books in the O.T consecutively... AND READ ALOUD and always read at least three chapters per day to complete within a year.... or;
Get a friend to begin with you and when and if they get bored with it or are inconsistent, get a couple 'back-up' co-readers and do it over the phone if necessary! It CAN BE done!.. or; Get it on tape or CD and follow along in same version.

I have read the Bible from cover to cover once. Since that time I have read the entire thing 4 or 5 times, except the Song of Solomon which I have skipped because I do not care to read porn.
Reading the entire Bible is just like reading any other book. It sounds to me like you have a problem with motivation. What I would recommend is decide how much you want to read every day and then set a time to do that reading and then after some time you will finish the Bible.

Treat it the same way you would a really long novel, like War and Peace or The Tale of Genji. Instead of seeing a 2-3k page work, see it as the smaller individual books it's made up of. Some of them will take a few days to read, some a week or more, and some you'll knock out in a single sitting.

Genesis is the best book anyhow. Exodus has some cool stuff like the bits about Moses and Pharaoh and the plagues. After Exodus things really slow down a lot. Leviticus is dead dull and no human could possibly get through the book of Numbers without dying of boredom.

I'd pray and think about what you are reading. The only way to do it, is to just do it. :-)
Remember though, that it can't just be for entertainment. It's not written for human approval like the movies and books we're used to in this day and age. You're likely to be bored in some parts, annoyed in others, and disturbed by some of it. But that's what humanity is like, and when you read about humanity and dealings with God it's not always pretty or exciting. It's hard to discipline yourself, but you can do it. I've done it before, and am working through it again. When you feel weak or like giving up, just ask God to give you the strength to keep going.

Actually I have a calender which I got from a friend of mine.It has a bible verse for every day of the year. But it's recommended that you read the whole chapter for further blessings. If you're that dedicated to the word of GOD it can be done.

It is one of the hardest things I every try to do and I love to read. You have to commit yourself to read the same time everyday. What my husband did was buy the Bible on tapes and listen to it when he was in the car. He got through the New Testament in 6 months.
