I have layered hair, about shoulder length...
When I wake up in the morning, my hair is puffy and frizzy (mostly puffy), and I have to use water to weigh it down. When it gets hot later in the day, it frizzes out again. o.O
Anybody know how to deal with this? (no gel or sprays please)

If you wrap you hair at night it shouldnt be as puffy... you just take your hair and some bobby pins and start brushing the side of your head so that your hair is smoothed over and pin it. just keep wrapping your hair around your head and pin it.. till its all pinned down.. then put a bandana or scarf around it.. when u wake up it should be smoother and easier to magage because you havent been rolling around in it all night..

If you blow dry your hair, do not wave the dryer around your head if you are in a hurry. This causes frizz. If you use a brush, and your dryer has a thin 'nozzle', point it downwards on your hair as you go. This helps to seal the hair cuticle, creating shine and eliminating frizz. You might want to try using conditioner, if you don't already. The Dove conditioners are good enough unless you need intense treatment. If you ever consider an anti-frizz product, use a lotion. Dove also has a nice one too.
Silk or silk-like pillow cases would also help while you sleep.

First of all, ditch the Suave.Thats the worst shampoo. I have frizzy, puffy hair also. I get it texturized, which is basically thinned out. I use redkin all soft shampoo and conditioner, and deep condition it 2 times per week with Loreals natures way deep conditioning pak. I also use a ionic dryer by Vidal Sasoon. I hope this helps

Straighteners usually help the puffiness for me. But humidity will always make it a little worse. Its the only way i would know of without gels or sprays...i think it would look very good with layered hair and just dont do it to high up the hair length and you wont loose volume. But you do need a good straightener or it wont work. I suggest a chi....expensive but worth it.

-Use a good mosturizing shampoo and conditioner like herbal essences hello hydration or pantene
-Do hot oil treatment using olive oil once a week. This nourishes your hair.
-Do deep conditioning 3 times a week using a good hair mask like Neutrogena triple moisture, elvive from loreal or pantene deep fortifying treatment. These nourish your hair and make it healthy and shiny.
-Use sunsilk straighten-up leave-in conditioner to protect ur hair when u go out in the sun
-U can straighten it once a while when going out but u have to spray a little to control the puffiness

I know I have problems with humidity as well
This is what I do, soften your hair, I put warmed olive oil in my hair, leave in for 15-30 minutes and wash/ condition as normal. I know you said no sprays or gels, but Biosilk silk therapy works well too. It's an oily substance you can put in your hair wet or dry, love it, makes my hair really soft and somewhat less frizzy, but the best thing is just to wait out this humid weather!

Try a straightening cream that is put on wet hair and left in.That are many brands that make one. or at Sallys try the matrix knockoff of Matrex, in an orange tube. Otherwise get it chemicaly straightened, they work great know and can just relax a little to a lot, and take down the volume.

Well, I have the same type of hair. It's pretty much about the shampoo you use. I used to use Suave. And it made my hair dried out and weighed down and it made it greasy in about a day. So i switched to Aussie and my hair doesn't poof anymore!

OK well my hair does the same thing and one thing i think that helps is when you blow dry your hair make sure the hair dryer is always facing towards the floor instead of towards the ceiling. it makes your hair less frizzy and for the shampoo i used none of your frizziness by herbal essence. it works really well for me. but make sure you use the conditioner!
hope this helps.

Have you tried straightening it? You could also use a shampoo by Herbal Essences called "None of Your Frizzness". It's in a pinkish-red bottle. It works pretty well for me.
