I would guess that the voltage regulator failed. The repair shouldn't be hard but you would need some technical knowledge to confirm it is the regulator and replace it.

If it just started doing that by itself without anybody changing anything, then what you need is an exorcist.

Just undo the last thing you did. If there is someone who might get a kick out of watching your 12 volt equipment get fried, then suspect that person.

If you have to check it out yourself, see if there is a switch on the thing to change the output voltage. It may be a strap over two of three screws or a wire that can be moved from one terminal to another.

Is it possible something happened to change the input voltage? Has someone been messing with the house wiring that might not know what he is doing?

It is possible that it uses a center-tapped transformer, and the tap wire came off or broke. This requires a knowledgeable electronics technician to look for.

Those are the things I can think of. Good luck.

It sounds like the step down transformer or voltage regulator in the power supply has failed. I would replace the whole power supply, because unfortunately it cost almost as much to repair.

ok, if your line voltage is 220, u may have switched it to 110

if u are measuring the voltage with no load it may be 24v - and 12v under load - not very regulated.

then again it could be broke.
series pass regulator (the big one on a heat sink) shorted.
