is gas attendant a low job here in usa?

In many (most?) US states, it is no longer even a job. With the exception of 1 state, nearly ALL gas stations are self-service. The only actual job is cashier. With pay-at-the-pump almost universal. Even the cashier deals with less than half the customers.
