Of course. How do you think they did it before crates? Some think a crate makes for easier and shorter training. I disagree. The old tried and true method is to have the dog on a leash in the house so that it is never out of your sight and you can quickly take it outside when you see it squatting or lifting a leg. Have a regular time you take the dog outside to potty. When you can't be with or have the dog with you then you contain it in a small area of the house with easily cleaned floors. You never scold a dog for pottying in the house. You clean up the mess and make a fuss at the mess not at the dog. Dogs learn really fast when you catch them pottying and scoop them up and take them outside while they are doing it. They do not like that and will learn. See where one of the answerer's said they also use the crate to keep the dog from chewing things? This is what I do not like about the crate. It is used for avoidance rather than training the dog to not chew inappropriate items, they just crate it, dog does not learn anything.

Yes. It requires getting after the dog everytime it messes though. I love going with a crate, as it makes it easier despite the annoyance of having the crate in the house. Also, the crate keeps the pupp from chewing on anything. Good luck!

Yes, you can house train without crates. I have a page on my website all about house training. Check it out, it might help.

our dog came to us because she couldn't be house trained by the neighbors. We just worked with the dog about every 2-3 hours we would take her outside and if she want potty we would praise her and maybe give her treats so that she would know it was a good thing to go outside. After awhile she learned on her own to go sit by the back door and one of us would let her out to go do her business and when she would scratch at the door we would let her in.

Yes, quite easily, but,,,,, IMHO you will have failed to lay the foundation for teaching the dog some other things. So you will have made the whole process of training the dog unnecessarily harder.
For instance I even use their crate when teaching a Pointer "Whoa"

you can ,but it will make the potty training alot longer and harder to do and more messer to do and by using the wee wee pads and the crait you will confuse the pup , you need to stick one traing method only. what i did for my boxer pup was get one of those life stages crate were a divider comes with it and as the pup grows you move the divider back.
