The sun will blur the tattoo, although not immediately - I've heard anywhere from 5-10 years to as much as 20 years, depending on the amount of sun you get. Those old guys people are always dissing on for crappy art? Often, it's all nasty due to the sun (the art may not have been good either, which only makes it worse).
Take care of your ink and it will be good for a *very* long time. I've seen tattoos 35 years old that looked better than tattoos 5 years old.
The sun for any extended period is just not a good thing for your skin, and that goes for tanning salons as well. Baking is for potatoes, not your skin or your tattoos.

Always put sunblock on a tattoo. I makes it pop and while the rest of your skin gets darker. I have one of those sunblock sticks that make it extremely easy to put sunblock on ONLY my tattoos. I tan in a tanning bed on a regular basis, and have been asked if my tattoo on my foot is henna because it is such a dark and rich black color all the time. Granted, it is only about a year old, but it hasn't suffered any fading what so ever.

yes it will end up fading. Get some good sunscreen and put it on just the tattoo. then everything else tans, tattoo does not. It beats having it look like crap later down the road

Fake bake, or any fake tan will not fade it, but tan beds will for sure. Only total sunblock will stop the fade, or covering up in the sun.

YESSSS!! tanning over time will cause your tattoo to fade and look horrible. tanning is bad for your skin and for the ink in your skin. the best thing to do is stay away from the sun at all costs. you'll be glad later in life when you don't have wrinkley leathery skin and an old faded tattoo.

Exposure to UV light (sunlight and tanning beds) is bad for tattoos. When in sunlight you should use a good sunscreen on your inkwork. Sunlight fades tattoos at a slower rate than tanning beds. Tanning beds pretty much "bake" you with a weeks worth of UV light in one short session, so they can cause tattoos to fade faster than just daily exposure to sunlight.

No it will not make it fade as long as you had a good tattoo artist... it all depends on the work he did~ if he did a crappy job it will fade prematuraly anyway no matter what you do (and they don't exactly 'fade' the ink begins coming out of the skin and gives them a faded appearance). As long as you wait the two weeks (and it is COMPLETELY HEALED...not scaling at all in any spots) it will be fine... Tanning in the sun excessivly however will make it fade quite a bit

Tanning ages the skin fast, so in the end, depending how much tanning you do, it will affect it. I'm all for taking care of skin, and tanning is not a way to do it.

Yes.....It will fade (obviously not completely) faster over time! To make the tattoo stick out make sure you use some kind of oil! That helps!
