The formal departure of the Risen Savior from the earth, 40 days after his resurrection. During the 40 days he had visited from time to time with the apostles, speaking to them “of things pertaining to the kingdom of God.” The ascension took place from a point on the Mount of Olives in the presence of the disciples. At that time two angels from heaven testified that in the future the Lord would return “in like manner.” See Mark 16: 19; Luke 24: 51; Acts 1: 9-12; cf. John 6: 62.

Ascension: The entry of Jesus' humanity into divine glory in God's heavenly domain, forty days after his Resurrection.

659 "So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God." < Mk 16:19 > Christ's body was glorified at the moment of his Resurrection, as proved by the new and supernatural properties it subsequently and permanently enjoys. But during the forty days when he eats and drinks familiarly with his disciples and teaches them about the kingdom, his glory remains veiled under the appearance of ordinary humanity . Jesus' final apparition ends with the irreversible entry of his humanity into divine glory, symbolized by the cloud and by heaven, where he is seated from that time forward at God's right hand . Only in a wholly exceptional and unique way would Jesus show himself to Paul "as to one untimely born", in a last apparition that established him as an apostle <1 Cor 15:8; cf 9:1; Gal 1:16>.

665 Christ's Ascension marks the definitive entrance of Jesus' humanity into God's heavenly domain, whence he will come again (cf. Acts 1:11); this humanity in the meantime hides him from the eyes of men (cf. Col 3:3).

–noun 1. the act of ascending; ascent.
2. the Ascension, the bodily ascending of Christ from earth to heaven.

however, Christ's BODY never ascended to heaven.

here are scriptures that use that word:

it means to go up where as descension means to go down. Jesus rose up or ascended back into heaven after he rose from the dead thus the ascension.
