I'd like to know, as an American, how people in the UK feel about large numbers of north africans and arabs immigrating to the UK. A while back, I read in article in "Der Spiegel" regarding the tensions in the UK after the London bombings. Afterwards, there were idiots holding signs saying "Islam will dominate, etc". Why is this tolerated? At least some of the things people say have got to be illegal. Some of the other things they have said in other cases are "take the Danish women as booty". We're talking about them advocating rape. Second, question why do individuals stand by idle and allow it? I know that in the US, if someone said such things after 9/11, the reaction would be hazardous to that persons health. Thirdly, why are they so disrespectful? Your society is very generous indeed with the social benefits. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Thank you for the enlightening responses. It makes me want to try and organize people, myself. The footage in the articles which I've read anger me so much. The way I look at it, Europe, is the most culturally enlightened place, and deserves to be protected. Just know, that if they ever try and for "sharia" on you guys, I'll come over there and teach them some respect, hopefully some of you will come with me:)

Interesting comments about the Polish. We too have a large polish community. Chicago is home to the largest group and they are officially the second largest immigrant group. They also raised a little hell recently because of the talk about amnesty for illegals and the fact that mexicans have it comparably easier. Their arguments are fair. For example, the Poles need Visas. As far as I know, the Mexicans can theoretically (and practically) avoid the process. Second argument is that a larger percent can speak english. This is true and I will testify to it. Even the worst english speaking poles can be worked with if you speak slowly, with no slang what so ever. Mexicans, many of them take spanish knowledge as a given.

I enjoy a good debate. Some are skeptical about what goes on at these Islamic rallies, but thanks to youtube, and the fact that people have cameras to capture these events, here is my evidence:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKUoxbR9mwA&mode=related&search=
Then here is this lovely interview on BBC:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWzbWInnGx0
I admire the interviewer's composer. Though clearly angry, he didn't react like I would like to, namely grab the guys beard and proceed to punch him repeatedly.

Its a HUGE issue here at the moment, especially when they come here and get priority for housing over UK nationals and then our tax payers benefits. Our schools are doing badly because teachers have to spend more time with the non english pupils. The government just isnt listening to us. One of the main issues is that if we speak up we get the race card thrown in our faces, I know that some of those that were holding the signs got arrested. Its not tolerated as such, the country is in uproar about it and want the gates closed on immigration etc but we are just the little people and i think unfortunatly it will take another actual bombing for it to be realised. We should be able to send out the men and fight the extremists power... but we arent extreme enough, we arent prepared to blow ourselves up in the name of freedom, its not what we are used to in our society. We just have to wait for some **** in parliament to finally see sense and say one strike and they are out and no more in.

Your question is interesting. I have to ask why the focus on North Africans and Arabs? How many North Africans and Arabs were involved in the July 7 bombings?
Just to correct one or two other claims made on this page; immigrants to this country have very limited access to benefits. The protests after the London bombings have resulted in a number of those participating, being recently jailed - see the link I've posted below. Secondly, I've never seen anything about taking, "Danish women as booty", so I can't comment on that. Thirdly, I see that others here have repeated the myth that immigration is to blame for the shortage of and high cost of housing in the UK. Not so, it owes a great deal more to Margaret Thatcher's Right to Buy Scheme.
In the UK - and this site - is no different there are views which are racist, xenophobic and indicative of a a little Englander mentality every time the issue of immigration raises its head; usually followed by misinformation and lies. A question posted here yesterday suggested 200 million Turks shortly having the right to come to the UK; Turkey of course has a population closer to 76 million than 200 million and I doubt the entire nation would decamp to the UK en masse. You will find those that are disrespectul amongst any group, irrespective of where they come from. But as always, the minority is not representative of the majority.
I'm all for having a debate on immigration, but lets have a sensible one based on the facts.

You are spot on with the analysis but the do gooders say that these people are contributing to our wealth by paying taxes. It has got so bad we cannot describe a Pakistani as a Paki but when we visit Australia we are called Pommies,in other parts Brits one of the same for me.The whole truth is that over the last 8yrs so many illegal immigrants have entered Britain they gave up on them and now are trying to weed them out,not a prayer.Just today a girl came to my door with a leaflet begging for clothes for the third world she could not speak english so I asked her if she was an illegal and did she dissapear fast. Its the latest scam collecting clothes from people and selling them in car boot sales.Every week we get at least 4 sacks pushed through the door same old story and playing on peoples emotions. The short answer is close the borders now and attempt to weed out the illegals and send them home.It has become a political time bomb waiting to explode. But you americans are welcome anytime cos we luv ya really. But I did never receive a receipt or a word from the NY fire dept when at the time of 9/11 i collected and sent them $5000.

As a member of the Conservatives, I believe that our immigration problem is disastrous. Our identity as a nation is being ripped away from us by immigrants who come here each day only to cause conflict and hatred. We are not racist, but the English are incredibly patriotic about England and we are frustrated that we are being treated as second class citizens next to these people who are coming here to cause crime.
Deserving immigrants should be given sanctuary immediately, but most of them are undeserving and have no rights to be living in our country. Every English citizen feels the same and we want OUT.
The Labour government have ripped out the heart and soul of the English, and we need the Conservatives to give us back what is ours and QUICKLY.
Vote David Cameron, and vote in border controls.

Its not the colour or the race.
Basically in the UK theres too many unskilled immigrants and not enough jobs and homes. Most are East European (Polish). These are the ones causing the problems as they are flooding over here in huge number for work and low cost housing, pushing low skilled Brits out of work and contributing to unemployment, housing and poverty problems.
A lot of the Arabs, Pakistanis etc are doctors and high skilled workers, some own companies and employ people creating jobs and tend not to rely on social housing as they can afford to buy their own (many own mutliple properties and are landlords, the money some of them have is phenomenal!)
The only problem is when these people (the Muslims, the Hindus are fine!) bring their very extreme religious beliefs with them.
As we are a "free" country (yes despite what Americans are taught at school we're not all being bossed around by the Queen and our "Feudal Overlords" all day!) we can't stop these people from protesting although there was a case recently when a ranting mullah who was calling for muslims to kill policemen etc was jailed for inciting murder (and his burka-wearing supporters kicked off over this!)
The most extreme can be deported or locked up for inciting racial hatred but we can't stop the banner waving "Death to the Infidel" ones without damaging our status as a free country with freedom of speech.
Not all Muslims are like this, I worked for a Pakistani immigrant who was a really nice guy, passionate about cricket and very westernised, but sadly the actions of the minority tend to reflect badly on the rest.

I am british and many of us dont understand why we are disrespected or why such behaviour is tolerated. The problem us as soon as we do object we are called racist. I do wish the british government had the same immigration procedures as America or Australia. We are only a small island and its getting very crowded here.
There is a growing sense of resentment here now and i think in the near future their will be a backlash from all of this.

Mass immigration has being a disaster for the UK. It as created a housing shortage pushing values beyond the reach of many people. As in an earlier answer the main immigrants are from Poland and other European country's. And the conditions they are living in are appalling. 2or3 family's per house. AS FOR THE RADICAL ISLAMISTS in the UK they think about1.5% of the population are Muslims. The very great majority are hard working and respected members of our society, please don't tar these people with the same brush as a few idiots, who by the way where prosecuted and found guilty of incitement and Jailed for 4 years. And no i am not a member of the PC brigade but hard Right winger.

Immigration is a problem for us in the UK the same as it is for the USA. I do not blame anyone for wanting a better life for their families but our biggest problem is the Political Correct brigade who are in fact the true racists and bend over backward to appear fair and alienate our own citizens who resent being treated as second class. Our Government has let us down badly because they are not taking action against the small group of Muslims who are allowed to demonstrate on our streets and have no wish to integrate into our community. Some of the Muslims seem to think they are superior to everyone else and although they have chosen to live here do not like us. There are good and bad everywhere and I welcome people who wish to contribute to our country not preach hatred here.
Everyone should be entitle to practise their religion with respect for others.
Most of our current incomers are from the EU countries who are hard working. We have more than a million Polish workers here now which has caused a problem for Poland and there has been a drain on their professional and construction workers as they are unable to match the money that they can earn in the UK so now Poland is encouraging workers to go to Poland from China and India, it looks like the whole world is on the move.

I never thought I would agree with the French but we should follow their lead and any immigrant to this country (the UK) should not be entitled automatically to benefits - they must have held down a job for 7 yrs before they are allowed to claim anything. Also - as the Australian primeminster pointed out - if you don't like this country then get out!!!! We are becoming second class citizens in our own country with all this political correctness rubbish.

In her force to cut back inflation, one previous chief drove down wages so a techniques that client capacity grew to become into decreased to the bare minimum. The effect of this act grew to become right into a persevering with decline in sales by using each and every producer in the land. decreased sales leads to decreased worker numbers. that's a vicious cycle which, as quickly as began, is perplexing to end. the suited effect of that act is that the united kingdom now desires to herald customers just to maintain the status quo. this is in straight forward terms immigration that's protecting off Thatcher's nemesis (as I call it) that could be the worst recession to ever hit the united kingdom. of direction, the Tories will ensure that they at the instant are not in capacity whilst it gets right here. Then they are going to blame whichever occasion is in place of work for the mess and the Tory press will fool the Tory electorate with yet greater lies and we people will learn no longer something!!!
