Since allergy shots are just little doses of the allergen, why can't people who are allergic to cats just get immune to it by living around cats?

The allergies people have to cats is really to the flakes of skin... or dander the cat is loaded with.
Because there are so many different kinds of cats, their dander is all different too.

Someone may actually lose an allergy to their own cat...if the allergy is mild, but other cats will flare it right back up again.

If I had to choose. have a cat and need shots or, have no cat and no shots, I'd pick no cat.

A cat allergy is usually caused when you are allergic to its dander. Having said that, all cats are different in their manufacture of saliva or have different types of fur, etc.

An allergy is really an inflammatory response. It treats the cat dander as something that threatens your body, even if it may not be so.

If you are allergic to cats there are two things you can do, get rid of the cat or get the allergy shots.
