TO bad you do not understand your theology. The Roman Catholic Church splintered off from what became the Eastern Orthodox church because of the top bishop (don't remember the name) then who was always considered first among equals. The split came about due to this bishop stating he had no equals, thus the RC church started down a slightly bent path.
Later on, Martin Luther tried to get this now-called Pope to see the error of his ways (peado baptism, enforcing confession to a man and not our Father, etc.) and bring the church back together. When this didn't happen the protestant church came into being.
The current protestant cannon consists of all of the books that quote each other and back each other up. The books also have years exhaustive research behind them.
The RC church did not "give" the Bible to anyone. You are baiting in this post. It appears that you do not want thoughtful answers, because you already know everything. I hope you are more open than your post sounds.
In Christ,

Catholics didn't give us the bible, God did,,,, and it is so arrogant to assume that the Catholic Church has a special deal with God...the Pope is just a man who will go to his grave,,,just like you...He deserves respect....but he sure doesn't deserve having his ring kissed....
It wouldn't matter what we say, really because the Catholics have added books that the main line Christians don't believe should be in the Bible....so they are going by an entirely different set of rules..
I love them, but they need to stand back and do some research on their church...they might learn a few things, they won't like...they might start by reading the bible for themselves...and not taking someone's word for what it says.

It's a power struggle within the religion. The Catholics put out a statement recently saying that Protestants couldn't even 'have a church'.
While I don't really agree with either side regarding this fight, I do think that the Catholic religion has a much longer history of antagonising their counterparts.
Most of my Catholic friends don't really care about their Protestants friends beliefs, and I've been to Cathedrals and prayed alongside my friends and taken communion, and God hasn't struck me down....

Evangelicals believe that the bible is a fallible collection of infalliable works; Roman Catholics believe that it's an infallible collection of infallible works. It's a fine distinction, but a major difference. Although the institution may not be perfect, the actual writings are perfect. I frown at my Protestant brothers who attempt to counter a doctrine with one verse or a verse out of context. Luther believed that scripture interprets scripture and that enough information is in there to support his beliefs.

Why would I NOT use the Bible to back up my claims? As a Christian, the Bible is my final authority. If I am debating spiritual or life issues, I begin by reasoning right from the Bible, especially if some portion of the Bible directly answers the question.

I am going to take a step back and take a very logical look at this. The New Testament wasn't compiled until 400 (by leaders of the CATHOLIC Church at Contantinople). The printing press wasn't invented until around 1440. So how could Christ have wanted private interpretation? It makes no sense at all. We are to rely on the Church and the pope, the rock on which the Church was founded. Only in the Church can the true interpretation of the Bible be found, just as it has been done since the time of Christ.

If Evangelicals and Catholics would stop fighting amongst one another maybe we would see us working together to make a difference in this crappy world instead of getting no where fast. If Catholics and Evangelicals would read and re-read John 17 maybe things would be different in the world.

There seems to be a growing rift between Catholics and Protestants that is truly unfortunate. If you look at the Reformation of the 16th Century you'll find out where the disagreements began. I hope we can put the past behind us and walk together in the love of God.

Most of the evangelical anti-Catholic fury these days dates back to Alexander Hislop, Loraine Boettner, and Jack Chick. Nother any of those three has to say is even remotely substantial.

Here, no bible, nothing up my sleeve.
The Catholics believe the Pope is infallible, yet he changes the rules at every turn.
Example: Eating meat on Friday was a mortal sin. You die with this mortal sin on your soul, you go straight to hell, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Then the rules change. Now you CAN eat meat on Friday without this 'mortal sin' being invoked.
I don't know about you, but I don't want a mere man in charge of my eternal destiny. That kind of power is sure to corrupt him.
Wait a minute, it HAS!
