I am jewish.

Jews only make up 1/4 of 1% of the world, and only 2% of the United States. Compared to Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity, we are nothing. So why is it that we get so much attention relative to our size.

Gratvol, I really don't understand why you are either offended by this question, or must think I am just stupid.

If you ask the average American what percent of the US is Jewish, you usually get answers between 10-20%. I have always been curious why the perception is that we are a much bigger group than we actually are.

Some people have answered that the reason is because Christianity was based on Judiasm. Others have answered the reason is because of Anti-semitism. There are cop-out explanations. There's got to be more than that.

Asking this question does not make me any less of a jew than you. And shame on your for insinuating that.

Personally I think it is because we are the unknown.

Think about it--the only time we are ever in the news is for scrutiny or because someone is getting in trouble for offending us. (Mel Gibson or Washington Airport around Xmas) There is no real information out there about our customs unless you go to a special section in the bookstore or rent special movies--t.v. plays Xmas specials every year but only recently have they been putting out Chanukah movies (one year on Disney channel and, well, Fox is a given anyway.) It has always been that way. We've always been the minorities and have generally kept to ourselves for various reasons: and I think this is one of the main reasons we get so much attention when we finally do get attention. All these generations of keeping to ourselves have allowed rumors to circulate and questions to form....lots of them. People are either curious or hateful but either way, they're vocal....

It's a great question...and yet it only stands to reason in my understanding that if God singles out a group of people to be His chosen, they will be the focus of the world, and they will always be so...focused on by those who love God and especially those who hate God.

Also look to history and see how many nations have tried to destroy the Jews...to enslave them and annihilate them from the face of the earth, just as Iran and many other Islamic countries wish to currently.

Yet the Jews are still here. It is precisely because the Jews are the chosen of God that this is true. The "greatest" empires of the world have ceased to be, yet the Jews remain, and live in the very places that were subjugated so frequently in the past by those same by-gone civilizations.

Through the Jews came the Blessing/Grace of God to the entire world in the name of Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 42:6

"I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, 7 to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

Perhaps because for the small numbers Jewish people have, they have vast and organized influence in the political, financial, media and entertainment industry as well as in science and technology. In the long run, the Bible/Torah predicts the Jewish King will be the ruler of the World, so, perhaps all this is happening in preparation to that eventuality.

There are many other minorities in the World, some of them very succesful, but none have the kind of influences the Jewish people have.

Because the Jewish people and the State of Israel does still exist. With all the enemies surrounding Israel and with all the hate against the Jewish people, G-d still blesses the Jewish people and hears their cries. They are the apple of His eye and they will continue to live on and on even until Messiah comes.

Also, not to mention, that the Iranian president wants Israel off the map and wants to destroy Jews and Christians, this is most definitely a threat and he does continue to go forward with his sanctions and is not going to cease.

Our Torah, which is the blueprint of creation, says it will be so. Check out Parashat Ki Tavo, and specifically Deuteronomy 28:37. Moses, warning the Israelites against defying Hashem, says "You will be a source of astonishment, a parable, and a conversation piece, among all the peoples where Hashem will lead you."

A better question...why do people doubt the truth of Torah?

Shalom.. mashlom kha.. atta besadegh..

Jews receive much attention because of the Israel so called promise land issue and because Islam, Christianity and Judaism all came from Abraham...

so the Jews are important to Christians and Muslims...

I am going to bite my tongue on the fact that you in particular asked this question.

I just wonder what exactly makes you Jewish in the first place?

Was it just because you were born a Jew or do you do anything that proactively states your Jewishness?

Well, I guess because some Jews tend to make their present known quite a bit. And the fact that Israel is always at the center of the tensions in the middle east. And there are lots and lots of Jewish lawyers, doctors, comedians, etc.

Becuase Jews are generally quite bright and productive, they have their own religion, and the two largest religions of the world are based upon said religion.

Because of their general successes in politics, business, academia and film. Also, many preachers like to capitalize on their reputation as God's chosen people and use any event in Israel as a barometer for the return of the Lord.
