Practically the Holy Grail for WWII collectors, you will need to look far and wide for a WWII BAR and when you find it you will pay more than a new BMW 3 series.

You can always find a few for sale at Knob Creek. Also, there's a new semi-auto version made by Ohio Ordnance at around $6000.

Ammo is easy, .30-06 M2 Ball 150 grain.

Its a status symbol. If I was in a conversation with someone about firearms and I told them I had a bolt action 30 06 with a Leupold scope they probably wouldnt care all that much. But if I told them that I had a "sniper" rifle all of a sudden people listen. I DO have a rifle that I use for sharpshooting, I went through schools on marksmanship when I was in the serive and I handload all my own ammo. But I have seen a lot of people do just as you say and go spend big bucks on these rifles and have no idea how to use them and in 2 years they arent interested in them any more.

Come on guys.I think Milton is talking about the World War II Browning Automatic Rifle in 30-06 caliber..NOT the current Browning Semi-automatic hunting rifle.
To answer your question. The only way you could own one of these select-fire, fully automatic capable rifles would be thru a Class III Machine Gun Dealer licensed to sell machine guns and fully automatic weapons. They have been out of production for years so you would have to find one that was already manufactured since they are no longer available. You would have to submit to a detailed background investigation and submit a set of fingerprints along with your application. You will also have to pay a fee to BATF for the transfer and an annual tax stamp for continued ownership/possession of this class3 weapon. 30-06 ball ammunition is available from many ammunition distributors and suppliers, but it is NOT inexpensive. Availability of these particular weapons are very scarce. Hope this answers your questions..

Seems to me some outfit made a semi auto replica of the old military B.A.R.

Looked like a fun way to waste a lot of 30-06 ammo.

Military B.A.R. is definitely classed as a machine gun. However, Springfield Armory makes a semi-auto version of the gun you want. I think they sell it in .308 caliber. Not sure about the .30-06 offering. These are new but hang on for the cost. Springfield Armory is in Geneseo Illinois so check their website and get an idea of price.

I knew what the price was at one time and I think it will be upwards of 2 grand. They used to sell a semi-auto copy of the M60 machine gun. Those ran about 10 grand.

which version? the fully automatic military version can be purchased from a class 3 machine gun dealer if you are over 21, not a criminal and go thru the back ground check and pay the $200.00 tax stamp fee plus the cost of the firearm. If you mean a semi auto version, I see them advertised in the "shotgun news" paper each month. If you mean the sporting rifle for hunting, you can buy them thru any licensed firearms dealer or at most sporting goods stores.

I've seen em on gunbroker from time to time. Most take regular 30.06,but a few of em are chambered in a different cartridge,or more likely a knockoff from another country.

Any sporting goods store than sells guns. Not the most expensive guns, but not inexpensive either.
I have two. One 7mm rem. mag. The other a 243

Several other calibers available. And ammunition for all can be purchased at any sporting good store that sell ammunition.

A "gun show" nearest you is your best bet. If you need one to fire automatic there will be dealers there with what you need to make it "full automatic".
