I have an acoustic guitar and I really know nothing about them...all of my strings, but two, broke and I took the strings off completely...I called a local music store and he said it would be any where from $25-$45, plus strings which at $8.75. He said it would be better for me to get it fixed than to try it myself...what should I do?

WHAT?! he said 25-45 plus strings just for him to restring ur guitar!!!!!!!!! go slap him across the face for trying to rip u off! i think i may have misunderstood u because i don't know who would charge 45 dollars to re-string a guitar but if thats the case i would re-string it yourself. if u don't know how i am sure there are videos on youtube. if not send me a message and i will make a video on how and send u the link.

That music store you mentioned is out for the all-mighty dollar! How ridiculous it is to think they'd charge $25-45 to furnish and install strings. I've never in my life been subjected to such treatment from reputable music stores.

Call around to other good music stores. They should install the strings you purchase from them free of charge.

Otherwise, as others have recommended, find a guitarist that can show you how it's done, and the important role in cleaning the fretboard before putting on the new strings.

Take your business elsewhere; you don't need that sort of hassle.

Well of course he'll tell you that - he wants your money!! Ask around and see if you have a friend who can help. If you're at a school, ask the music department for help. If you're a churchgoer, see if the organist knows somebody who can help.

BTW, putting the strings on is the easy (and I do mean easy) part. Tuning the thing and keeping it tuned? Now that's another issue entirely!!

If this is your first time stringing a guitar, I have to warn you, it's a little tricky and takes some time. i recommend you take it in and have them show you how to do it or if you have a guitar teacher, you can ask them to show you haow during a lesson, that's what i did with my first guitar. After that, you can just do it yourself.

if you are a novice, i strongly urge you to take it in the first time.
ask if you can watch the re-string to learn. the music shop may not let this happen, so you may want to get in contact with a local musician willing to teach you. It is not hard to learn.
