God, the Warrior and Judge desired to utterly humiliate the egyptians; for their audacity to make god(s) composed of stone or painted on wall - all of whom had critters parts melded into human parts. Furthermore, one of the pharoahs got the bright idea that "he was god" and expected worship and complete subserviance. Then, to make matters worse, the egyptians took the hebrews into captivity and used them as slave labor; on their special projects, especially to try to unlock the mystery of immortality and "storm shelters" in case there was another flood. The shelters were just for a few people; the rest could drown.

So, God sent plague after plague after plague upon the people and the land; until the piece de resistance of: He sent an angel charged with killing the first born of "every" house in that God forsaken land. (pun intended).

For the sake of His elect, He told Moses how the hebrews could be protected, that is, smear some sheep blood on the door posts and the angel would "pass over" that house. Interestingly, the 'feast' of the passover, is of bland and bitter fare (to remind the hebrews of the 'bitter' lives they had).

Now, after the last plague, pharoah told the hebrews to get out of his world. The hebrews, having the upper hand, demanded 'tribute' of gold, silver and other costly things from each and every house hold; and then they left. Pharoah became aware of just how much money they had gotten and went charging after them. This gave God another opportunity to show His power, His protection of His people and that He is not a soft, sentimental fool. He is a force to be reckoned with!!! And yes, God is love BUT He is a burning fire!!! It is a terrible thing to fall into the disfavor of the Living God.

I do so hope that that triggered your memories. heh heh

The Old Testament is full of stuff like that.

The first 8 plagues didn't convince the Pharaoh. They were all too close to natural occurrences. So God sent a plague of burning hail, thinking certainly the Pharaoh would see that this was God's doing. But of course he didn't.

So God told Moses (and Moses told the Pharaoh) that the next plague would come from his own mouth (the Pharaoh's mouth). The Pharaoh decided to kill the first born of the Hebrews, so God just turned it around on him.

But doesn't that just show us that our spite and obstreperousness only hurt ourselves?

It's wrong and foolish to mock God.(Galations 6:7) With that said, He is the only one who knows the hearts of people and is perfect in justice. (2 Chronicles 6:30)

We can be sure that whenever He has executed His judgements in the past and will in the future, it is only after advance warning and reading the heart. He doesn't put people with good hearts to death. Unlike imperfect humans who allow terrible criminals get away with horrible things, only to do more harm to innocent people, God's justice is sure and proper and 100% justified! (Psalm 33:4,5; Exodus 34:6,7)

Deuteronomy 32:4 & 5 says about God: "The Rock, perfect is his activity, For all his ways are justice.
A God of faithfulness, with whom there is no injustice;
Righteous and upright is he. They have acted ruinously on their own part; They are not his children, the defect is their own. A generation crooked and twisted!"

All his ways are justice so when he executes judgements after advance warning and people do not change, he is completely justified in bringing their destruction. He absolutely knows what is best and is perfect in righteousness, so He always does what is right!

All who listened to him had the option of placing blood on their door Egyptian and Jew. THose who did not Listen had the first born die, remember first born that means any age. 9 warnings were given before this happened. And Lets not forget the 400 years of death and suffering the Jews lived under as well as the killing of all the babies by the Egyptians where moses was the only survivor. God Is just, even though they did all this he gave warning, Gave them a Chance. It was the Sin of the Egyptians that brought the death of the first born, There hearts would not listen because of Greed.

God has the write to Judge his creation, And he gives perfect Justice every time. One day you too will have to face this, But he has shown his love by giving his son to pay for your sins. You can be set free from judgment by placing your life in his hands and following him. He took upon him the sins of all the world, every sin you can think off Jesus held on his shoulders and he would have done it all for only you.

First born son died if lamb's blood was not on the door frame of the house. It wasn't just babies & little kids that died. Some Isralites died that didn't have the faith to follow Moses.

The Egyptians were evil and the Israelites needed to be freed. God is an all-loving God.

he killed the first born son...but that was because the pharo was stubborn and God knew that was the only way he could get through to him...and yes this a very sad point in history...but god also did other amazing things...in genesis he told adam and eve that if they ate from the the tree of knowledge of good and evil that they would surley die...and he did not kill them he just banashed them form the garden...but before they left he gave them clothing...so dont just focus on the lower parts of the bible there is also alot of good stuff in there...good luck!!!

God gave Pharoh the ability to choose the next plague.

If nothing else, it should get you to stop and think before you yourself make a decision without thinking about it first, Rash decisions are generally poor choices.

God did as Pharoh hastily and arrogantly stated. This rash outburst caused Pharoh the death of his only son.
