Even the slightest criticism, and they immediately resort to name-calling,insults and profanity. And it's very intense. Any challenge to their belief system - the Primordial Soup being hit by lightning, etc. - and they fly into a complete rage. I see no indication of cool-minded rationalism, still less any trance of enlightened humanism. In fact, they sound just like those fundies who want to establish a Christian theocracy. Nor do they impress one as educated, for the most part. Why do they feel they should be above criticism? Is it some kind of fascist conception that they constitute an elite? That does appear to be their self-image. Opinions?

Oh,stop being such hyprocrites. Just look at those atheist postings. The "questions" are obviously rhetorical. They heap scorn and abuse on people every minute. You're all such phonies.

They think they are superior to everyone else. They don't think anyone should have any rights other than themselves. Essentially, most of them exhibit a fascistic disposition. The intense hostility with which they react to any criticism can mean only one thing: they believe they should be above criticism, and in Total Control. And that is fascism. I - with rare exceptions - find them to be exceedingly crude, cruel and repellent. But mostly I'm concerned about the political dimension. The aura of crypto-fascism,the willingness to do anything - literarily anything - to have their way.
As - for example - the clone of me up above, created by an atheist to harass me. Her name is Bettirage, which is appropriate enough. Naturally, she puts sexual innuendos in my avatars mouth. I've complained repeatedly,by the way,but unfortunately the site managers are fellow atheists and simply ignore my requests. Fundies have done this to atheists - but the clone is spotted and deleted within an hour or two. And this is what I mean when I describe atheists as fundamentally fascistic and cruel. Most of them are simply angry, frustrated and probably very disturbed people. But they are still fascists - and fascists are always potentially dangerous.

Their biggest problem is that they believe they have cornered the market on logic and reason. Once you do that you won't be able to have an honest debate. All that's left is name calling and insults. It's pretty sad.
All these Athiest who keep asking for proof just need to open their eyes. It's not hard to find.
In their defense however, I think a lot of what they are reacting to is stuff said by fundies. They can't be totally blamed for that.

Do you think it might be because they've suffered horribly at the hands of Christians for 2000 years, from denial of human rights to unconscionable torture? Gee, I wonder....
Stop interfering in other peoples lives and you'll find a different reaction. And no, it does not matter if YOU don't act that way, because the majority of the rest of the Christians do.
Edit: rofl... you call us hypocrites. Yet we're the ones that have suffered things like the iron maiden. We're the ones whose rights you try to remove because your religion doesn't like them.
You want to know hypocrites? How about Christians that only live by parts of their bible when it suits them at the time. And most do exactly that.
Think before you speak. You're the most powerful religion in the world and you can do pretty much anything you want to do. Well the Atheists are sick of it.
You get people saying some harsh (and not even particularly nasty things) to you, and you think that gives you the right to be upset? Well honey, you need to grow up and get your head out of the sand.

Yep, I noticed it too. In response to a valid question, the responses I got ranged from sarcastic to stupid to angry. Many thought that a valid response to a question involved calling the asker cotton wool and dumb *** and what not.
There were some good answers, people who thought things through, and didn't write rubbish for the sake of writing it. There are some genuinely funny ones out there too.

James 4:11 There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?
Who is the hypocrite?
I think perhaps your God is not too happy with you right now.

Would you post a link to such hostility please?
It would be nice to see what you are talking about rather than just empty accusations.
