The Australian east coast runs about 4000km from the Victorian border near Gabo Island to Cape York. There are many different areas. The east coast has everything from the tropics to the snow; coral reefs to sandstone cliffs; broad beaches to isolated coves; bays and headlands; rivers and lakes; sand dunes and river bars. It has the great cities of Sydney and Brisbane; the smaller cities of Newcastle, Wollongong, and Townsville; many towns like Cairns, Mackay and Coffs Harbour and small villages and tiny hamlets.

Between the NSW border and Brisbane is the Gold Coast. Some people like it, it has theme parks, but for me it is a place you drive through on your way to Brisbane. There are hundreds of thousands of people living there so it must have its attractions but not for me. If I had to live on the coast there are many many other places I would choose before the Gold Coast. In fact I would choose anywhere on the 4000km coastline before the Gold Coast. But that's me, you might like it.

I live on the Gold Coast in Main Beach which is full of highrises. It is the best place I have ever lived and I have lived many places in the world including Sydney (where I grew up) Tokyo, USA, London etc... I have never felt unsafe walking around the area even at night and have never heard of any muggings in Main Beach. There are alot of highrise units consisting of residents but also letted for people on holidays. I live in a complex which is 50% resident 50% holiday makers and it's great because people are generally very happy when they are on holidays and it often puts me in a good mood when I get in the lift and see the smiles on everyones faces!!

The Gold Coast is really sunny, not polluted (like Sydney) and people are more laid back. Having said all that it is not always easy to get work here unless you are in hospitality or retail or in the building industry as it is still foremost a tourist destination. The beaches are beautiful but if you don't like highrises then it may not be the city for you.
There are more residential areas a bit inland and on the southern end of the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast is a mini Florida. Gorgeous weather, high rise, shopping, plenty of tourists, some crime but not much - fairly safe. Brisbane is the closest city to Gold Coast - might be easier to get a job there, and travel to the coast on weekends. What country are you coming from?

if you want to study and work in australia you must first obtain a visa before coming to australia. go to the nearest australian consulate.
the gold coast is a beautiful place to visit - looks just like the pictures. it is very pleasant and secure. however, you don't want to be wandering around alone at 1 a.m. - use common sense & you'll be fine.

i think of because of the fact the Gold Cup is held in u . s . a . they play a million gold cup on the east(giants stadium) and a million on the west(Rose Bowl) considering the fact that the two are the main important stadiums on west and east. in spite of the indisputable fact that it dont look honest notably considering the fact that u . s . a . is a huge united states of america they cant play everywhere. they might desire to enable critical united states of america of america host it as quickly as. yet doubt it
