Microsoft will maintain the copyright to XP for 70 to 120 years after the release of the product.

It is legal to use a backup copy of XP, as long as you purchased a legal Product Key.

It's indefinite... they'll continue to renew the copyright. Most copyrights work that it expires 70 years after the death of the author but since it's from a company, that won't be the case

I'm pretty sure they renew the copyright every year. And no, they would never let anyone legally use a non-genuine windows (Microsoft Monopoly~!) , but of course it still happens anyways.

1. Forever

2. If you bought the XP, then you can install it on one machine. If you remove from one machine you are allowed to put it on another.
