DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- NASCAR announced Tuesday that Tony Stewart has been fined $25,000 and penalized 25 Nextel Cup Series driver championship points, as a result of using inappropriate language during a post-race televised interview following his victory Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Chevrolet, retains his fifth-place standing in the series points, with his total points reduced to 2,599.
Stewart violated Section 12-4-A of the series rule book (actions detrimental to stock car racing) by using the inappropriate language.
In addition, Stewart's car owner, Joe Gibbs, has been penalized 25 car owner championship points because of the infraction.

i wish we could go back to the old days when they could be race car drivers, and not spokesmodels for nascar. if you won at whatever your favorite game, got the promotion you have been dying for, or got that big contact would you say hell yeah or this is the best damn thing that happened to me. or would you just sit by and say o that was good. grow up nascar and let the drivers be drivers thats why we like this sport not because you make it politically correct.
go big orange stand up for old school
i hope yahoo doesnt dock me points for this answer, sorry to anyone reading this and thought the cuss words were disturbing NOT!!!!!!!!

If you watch the interview where he said this win was for the fans that have had to put up with all the "bullshit", he knew exactly what he was saying. You could see the little smirk come across his face just before he said it. He is a driver that is always testing the boundries of the rules and thats ok, as long as you know you will pay the price, which he does. All these drivers have a lot of passion and Nascar knows it. I personally couldn't give a rip aboout Nascars rules myself, thats all they are now is a bunch of rules. In this day and age they have the ability to do the interview on a delay so they can edit out anything they deem as unfit. I would love to see Nascar shoot themselves in the foot & with the way they're going it's gonna happen yet. It's a good thing the NFL doesn't have these rules or there wouldn't even be a Superbowl!

I went to the race in New Hampshire this year, and that band that sings "Born to Be Wild" for NASCAR played a couple songs before the race. They were dropping F-bombs and talking about smoking weed. They didn't get fined or lose points, and they suck! Smoke should appeal.

AMEN fishingDave! Let NASCAR be NASCAR, let the drivers duke it out on and off the track. Let the words fly--that is what makes the sport exciting, and NASCAR is taking the fun out of the sport for both drivers and fans!!! Tony should be respected for speaking his mind, it is a free country isn't it?

It's right ,it's fair and to be clear it was what good ol' Tony was striving for.Problem is that bullet has been fired, what motivator will Smoke use next.Because Nascar won't play next time and the 25 points or more when the chase begins is killer. So Tony will have to double up on his meds. and use the talent he has for racing.instead of his talent to motivate himself through his own bad acts. He's a two-time champ who sometimes doesn't have a clue and more often than not any respect for the sport that has made him a very rich man.

I am sure the money doesn't mean anything to him and the points aren't that big of a deal because of the chase format. The whole being detrimental to Nascar is a joke he is breathing life into it.

well I think that is a Bunch of Crap one bad word and you get 25 points knocked off. I think they should be worried about other stuff than one bad word for goodness sakes.I am a Big Tony Stewart fan so this upsets me more than Others I am sure.

Jr was not docked 100 points for his foul language. I belive it was only 25 as well. I am a huge tony fan, but I knew the points penalty was coming.

I'm not sure how saying "Bulls!t" is detrimental to stock car racing....as long as they're consistant about it..no one can complain. I've murmurred worse in my sleep...At least they didn't take the win from him or something. That would be a bit much.

tony stewart has had an attitude problem since his induction into Nascar. He has been to counciling but that has not cured his tmper it has only helped him to keep it in check. what Tony Stewart needs to have happen to him is to be suspended by Nascar for a season or maybe longer so he can see just how he is affecting those fans that idolize him.
