Our cat, who is 8, has always had run of the house and chooses wherever she would like to sleep - bed, sofa, chairs, piles of clothes etc... and we have never particularly minded this.
However, is it known that cats do particularly like their own designated space for sleeping? Would a bed or a basket make her more secure/comfortable etc - she often gets kicked off the beds (literally!) if we are asleep and she startles and jumps off the sofas etc etc
Am I actually depriving her of her own sleeping place or do cats like the run of the hosue to choose their own place?
I am getting to quite like the idea of her having one place, as I am getting a little fed up with the hair everywhere she has sat, but I love her to bits and really want to do what is best for her!
Thanks for your ideas!

I don't think it's a must, but it would be worth a try.
It might be nice for her to have her own little space that was just hers - bear in mind it might take ages and ages for her to get a liking for it though, and you might have to move it around because you don't know where she wants it!
They do great stuff in petsathome - I got my cat some nice fleecy stuff once but she despised me for it and even hissed when I tried to push her on to it! I let her stick to my old dressing gown and beanbag!!

Cats will sleep in the bed for a while and then you'll see them sleeping in another spot for a while. They like to change out the area they sleep in every so often. You might want to put a sheet on the couch when she chooses the couch to sleep on. This way all you have to do is wash the sheet instead of having hair all over.
Good luck

Cats are ... well ... cats. Most of the time, what we think would be good for kitty ends up a joke from our side of the fence. You can train kitty to stay off your furniture (although that usually ends up in frustration for owner and kitty alike). You can put a sheet or blanket over your furniture and then roll it up when you want to sit down (my parents did that all of the time - did cut down a little bit). Maybe get something like a self-warming pad for kitty. I wouldn't suggest spending money on a bed that may or may not be used ... especially with an older cat.

I got my siamese a bed and she's had it ever since she was a kitten (which I guess she is still considered) and she does like it.She sleeps in it during the day or when nobody is home but in the middle of the night she comes up on my bed and sleeps with me.So I guess you could say she just uses her bed for naps hehe :) But I wouldnt go spending lots of money on a cat bed. Most cats like it simple. My cat has just a cardboard box with a cut out for her to walk in and its filled with nice comfy blankets
Hope this helps :)
Also if you can try putting the bed next to a window, my cat, as do most, loves to sleep in the sunlight! lol

What ever you want to do. I have a cat that can sleep any where she wants also & she sleeps in the little bed I got her most of the time. She'll cuddle with me some but she really does like her bed. You might just try it. She may be happier without having to sleep with you too!

I would say, you could try a bed but don't be shocked if she doesn't use it. Cats rather like doing their own thing, but you could make it tempting to her by putting catnip in it, and maybe a blanket that she likes or lays on. My 1 yr old loves to lay inside the clothes basket or on clothes so I just used an old clothes basket and put a blanket in it and she LOVES it. Since I already had it, it didn't cost me any money. :-) My two boys (2 yrs old each) could care less about that basket! Good luck.

My cats have their own beds....just a really small dog bed does the trick.
I would urge you to stay away from baskets, as they can chew on those and possibly swallow some of the wicker and become sick.
Though the older the cat, the more likely they won't like using a bed. My guys like their beds, but I've had those beds since day 1. So, having said that...buy a bed if you want, but don't get heartbroken if your cat won't use it.

It isn't necessary to buy your cat a bed. I bought my eldest cat a bed for christmas (yeah, I know, corny) and neither one of my cats would pay any attention to it. My dog uses it now. lol. Cats usually find plenty of places comfortable for them. Even if you don't think it looks very comfortable (like the bathroom sink). If you want to try and get her a bed, sprinkle a little catnip in it so that your cat at least knows its there. But I promise you, for a cat, it isn't necessary.

Hi
I suggest getting her a cat house/tree. You can get a myriad of sizes and shapes that look quite cool. I have 4 cats and 4 cat houses and they have all taken over one or the other of them. These also give them a scratching post that they can scratch and put their scent on from the pads of their feet so it will seem more personal to them. They will know it is their spot...
Hope this helps
