i know it's a stupid question, but is it possible? if so, how? it would be nice to block away all the useless or horrible people that you wish you wouldn't like, until a right person comes along.

Anger management exists. If you accept that love is an emotion/feeling like anger is, then by transitive Love management must also exist.

Its that people don't WANT to manage love because it is supposed to be the free spirit, pie-in-the-sky, come what may, c'est la vie type of emotion. However, to admit that you can control one feeling an not another is folly. If you can manage anger, and you can deal with grief, then you can certainly control love. Its simply a matter of admitting that it is not a mystery box, its a feeling just like any other.

You simply keep your heart closed and keep the relationship more superficial.

However, how would you know the "right" person if your heart wasn't open? If you are blocking out the "useless or horrible people" you'll be blocking out those with potential as well, because you won't know the difference.

Getting your heart hurt is a risk you take in relationships...

I would say there's no guarantee, but write lists of what you want this "ideal" person to be...practical things like, doesn't lose his temper, good w/ kids, personality traits, not just "tall, dark & handsome"
when you're w/ someone, or thinking of someone, consult the list you wrote when you didn't have butterflies in your stomach about that person....how do they measure up? do they fall short? Do they do things you absolutely couldn't stand when you wrote the list, but now you're trying to excuse them for it?? That's an unhealthy relationship.
Of course, love doesn't follow lists, but if you've written the things you absolutely cannot live w/, like a temper, or cannot live w/out, like someone else who wants kids, it'll help when you have those rose-colored glasses on, to be able to look back at what your needs are.

Probably. I hate those dreams. It's like I'm falling off a mountain, and if you don't wake up you could have a heart-attack because it seems so real. :)

Its called life experience. If you met the "perfect one" straight off, think of all the things you missed, the stories you could tell, etc. To have no emotional attachment is not living !

Keep yourself busy and avoid people at all costs. But if you are looking for an easy on-off button for reality, then you're out of luck. Just keep yourself busy and avoid the person you have feelings for if you don't want to get invested.

just like you choose your next meal,
you should choose your next mate....
taste it and if you like it eat it again.
you dont have to fall in love with it
if you dont like it spit it out.

people assume that love has to be part of the scene and they let their emotions wonder.
you can control who you fall in love with
if it something you want to hold on to just learn to adjust your emotions.
