I haven't seen a ball pit in a while...
Many of the places that have kids playgrounds are nasty. If they stink - then no way.
My daughters have to keep their socks on and it is straight to the purell on the hands, and baby wipes on the rest of their bodies just after.
When it doubt, go to an outdoor playground!

The ball pit at our local McDonald's was removed a long time ago, but it still has one of those jungle gym tunnel play structures. I used to let my kids play in it until one day when my daughter found a big ol' pile of poop inside!! And when I told the manager, he sent a young kid to clean it up, and all he did was get some paper towels and throw it away! It was only when I complained again that they actually got some sanitizer and cleaned it up. But they didn't disinfect the whole thing, just the one spot. So, ever since I just tell my kids sorry, we don't do that anymore. Really Gross.

we took our 4 children to a McD last weekend and they played in the tunnels there for the first and LAST time. It was so gross-food and stickiness all over the place. I made them wear their shoes inside it for the 5 minutes I could stand it at all (there was no one else there, and the sign says to remove shoes). The only reason we stopped is because it was near where we were going to get haircuts and we were very early. Never ever again, their shorts were black from the play mats under the slides, yuck. My kids are 5, 4, and 2 and 3 months old and so we do not get out much-but never again!

Well, I used to until I read the stories about the needles and rattle snakes. Since then we will not even go into a place with a ball pit. Whether it's true or not it's not safe and I'm not willing to take a chance. Hope this helps

Come to think of it, I always played in them when I was small, and never ran into these kind of situations.... soo....times have changed and I don't think I would let my kids play in the balls...
I live in California and I don't see them as much as I used to. My kids play in the tunnels at the restaurants. And as a news flash, the employees don't clean them either. Kids still pee in there and homeless can sleep in there if its out side. I just try to go to a clean one, or a newer restaurant that is inside, they seem to be a lot cleaner and more taken care of then the ones outside. Good Luck

This is my first time hearing of this, but I definitely would not let my child play in it. But I can believe it because employees at a fast food restraurant are not taking the time out to clean a ball pit.

I played in them when I was a child. I think that most of these stories are urban myths. I think if the place is reputable I would let my son play in it, but not at McD's or some place like that. They do not have the time to clean out the toy bin and I don't feel its safe. Most places don't have the ball bins anymore because of insurance and safety reasons. They were fun and I miss them but your childs safety comes first.

They don't have ball pits here any more, and we only go to Mcd's in the winter when it is to cold to go outside, so they can play in the big tunnel climbing things.

i would never take them there, i had a job once to go in and clean the play area after hours, the pay was really good. then i had to go in there. well i only lasted one night. i kept thinking about my two small ones and how many times i did let em play there. well after that, i refused. i told them why we no longer went there, they didnt get it. so grandma took them instead. i let them go with her, but she knew why it grossed me out so much, then after she brought them home and gave a bath....... not much longer after that i think they grew out of it and didnt even ask to go in anymore....
