There are alot of food that are unhealthy. The ones to watch out for are the one's that contain trans-fat. What out for fast food and stuff from places like mcdonalds. There are stuff that can be substituted for something healthier e.g white bread, butter e.t.c

Greasy food cooked in fat. Chocolate and other foods high in sugar.

I don't think GM foods are necessarily considered unhealthy, just dangerous because people don't like the idea.

Empty calories, that is, food containing only fats or sugars WITHOUT vitamins and minerals (ie: soda, fried food).

Anything containing fats, sugars or both but also vitamins and minerals (such as pancakes or omelette ) can be eaten in moderation.

Dark chocolate and peanut butter are NOT unhealthy unless you buy cheap ones with transfats. They both have important chemicals for your body, of course they are packed with calories so you need to eat them in moderation.

I have come to the conclusion that any food can be unhealthy. This is for a variety of reasons, that I will subdivide into (1) Proven reasons and (2) Scare reasons.

(1) It is generally accepted that the pinnacle of cuisine is that described as French 'Haute Cuisine', with its various sauces. Cooking of this ilk or derived from this ilk is de rigeur in the West's top restaurants ( despite the fact that this mode of cooking risks ossifying the creative process, as argued by the fiery British chef, Antony Worral-Thompson). A lot of this cuisine is based on butter - meats and veg sealed in butter, stocks thickened with butter, sauces blended with butter. I will spare you the technical terms - refer to 'Larousse Gastronomique' for further info. This cuisine for the celeb and the rich or pretentious is loaded with fat. However, have you ever tasted Normandy butter? The food, from meat dished through to a ratatouille, could be considered unhealthy purely on the basis of all this butter. But, by gum, it tastes good.

The fast-food industry is a bit dodgier, as the vastness of their empires precludes investigation by laymen and/or chefs as to how their ingredients are sourced. I know, from my local butcher, where my meat comes from, right down to the individual farm, but could one find out that info easily re the sourcing of meat for a multi-national fast food empire?

Eggs. One of the building blocks of cooking. Decidedly dodgy, not because the egg itself is manifestly evil, but because the battery chicken, banged up in its little cell, produces eggs in stressful conditions in what could only be decribed as an egg factory.

Meat. How much meat that we eat can be guaranteed free of antibiotic residues?

(2) Scares. In my lifetime, carbohydrates and starches - potatoes, pasta etc have been vilified, but are now on the approved list again. Fats are now the villain, but as fats break down in different ways, all are bad, then some are bad, then some that were bad are now not so bad, whereas some that were good are no longer good, but not necessarily bad, but could become so if eaten in combination with other fats that were on the bad list but are no longer so placed, unless combined with yet another fat blah blah blah...........

Proteins - even they have come under the microscope of the scaremonger.

Let us use some sense. Proteins provide the building blocks for the body, Carbohydrates provide the best source of energy. Vegetables and fruit provide essential vitamins and minerals and fats, as well as being another useful source of energy, also take a long time to digest, and thus provide satisfaction and prevent overeating.

The person who eats every night at the Ritz is in as great a danger as the person who eats McDonbuggerkfc every day.
An overload of buerre manie, Cotes de Rhone and Charolais beef is just as bad as deep-fried mars bar, Tennents lager and Forfar Bridies. The sensible person eats a balanced diet, avoids excessive salt, too much refined sugar, and attempts to eat free range eggs and chicken, Gressingham duck, plenty of fruit and veg and now and again pigs out on Fish and Chips, a Big Mac or Lobster Thermidor in a Mornay sauce.

Any and all fast food. Anything with hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils-these are called trans-fats and they're deadly. Stay away from pre-packaged processed foods like boxed mac and cheese or TV dinners, they're full of hidden fats, salts, and sugars.

anything fried, anything with lots of sugar or sugary ingredients ( their names end in -ose), eating too much of anything is unhealthy. processed foods are unhealthy because of the high salt content. you can get lots of healthy foods at fast food restaurants if you use your common sense.

Anything that tastes good. Chocolate, toffee, butter, cream, prime steak, coffee, wine, whiskey, liquers, ice cream, all unhealthy.

Get yourself a nice plate of boiled cabbage, spinach, carrot juice, soya protein, egg white (throw away the yolk), tofu, beans and pulses (keep you regular), prunes, plain water....Yummy!
