I met someone online in December, and we have been dating off and on since. I am not ready for as serious of a relationship as he is, and would like to move on - I am very busy, and have tried to get together with him to discuss this and every time, something comes up that prevents the discussion. I will admit it, I am chicken to tell him in person, as he does have a little bit of a temper.

If he has a bit of a temper then you really don't want to be around when he finds out that he just got kicked to the curb.
Do you see him in real life at all? Or phone?
The more mature thing to do would be to tell him in person, or at least by phone. The more sane thing to do with someone who has anger management issues is tell him on the phone.
And just remember Dear John letters were so popular for a reason... so this is the age of Dear John e-mails. It's not the nicest way to go - but just let him go!!!

Call him then. Email is way too impersonal if you've been seeing him offline as well. Face-to-face is best but if you seriously cannot set up a meeting then there's no point dragging this out for weeks waiting for your schedules to connect. What you may find is that his schedule issues may be his way of giving you the brush off and it may not incite his temper as much as you think.
Get it over with and move on....but remember, if you're going to start relationships, you need to be able to end them appropriately.

If your afraid he'll lose his temper on you and your scared of him then call him or by all means email him. But if your afraid he's just going to get mad and upset you should really tell him in person, he has to respect you being truthful with him. If you don't want to be with him you shouldn't feel obligated to.

I think its rude to break up with someone via email. Call him and let him know that you need to really talk to him. This will show him that you have respect for him although he will not like what you have to talk about. Insult to injury is breaking up via email.
Now if he doesn't find time to get together I would probably do it via email.

I think it is OK to break up via email, but if he does have a temper becareful. Prepare yourself to maybe change phone numbers, email, etc.
