This might sound stupid, but can you buy them online?
I'm looking for a gun to protect myself...but I dont want it to shoot bullets...cause I wouldnt ever want to kill someone. I know they have ones that shoot bean bags...some shoot smelly stuff to make a predator stay away/not be able to breathe really well, etc. What are other types? And can I buy any of them online?

I respect that you would not ever have the will or desire to kill someone. That's fine, it's good that you know this.

Now, knowing that, you DO NOT WANT A GUN. Of any kind. Period. Guns are lethal weapons. If you pull a gun on someone looking to do you harm or take your stuff, they will kill you.

Get an electric stun gun and pepper spray at your local police supply store. The nice man will help you select what works well for you.

Those guns are considered "Less-Lethal." They are usually sold either as a 40mm or 37mm. We usually refer to them as "street sweepers" just to give you a hint on their size. They can shoot a single load or some of the larger launchers can hold a drum round of 6+ rounds. They can fire anything from Military grade tear gas, oc spray, bean bags, wood splints, rubber balls, etc...

I wouldn't recommend these for anyone due to their size, price ($3,500 plus) and due to the fact that it would be hard for a civilian to buy. However, they do make a 12 guage round for most of the less lethal ammunitions. These loads can be shot out of most 12 guage shot guns. This I would not recommend due to the fact that a single load can cost from $50-$100+ per round.

For you I would recommend a weapon used for home protection. If you don't feel that you would be able to use lethal force against someone, I would recommend an alternate source of protection. A dog, OC spray, baseball bat, stun gun, large bodyguard, etc...

If you do buy pepper spray for home defense, don't ever buy some generic brand from an outdoor store or Wal-Mart type place. These are used for dog and bear defense, not home defense. They are very minimal on the amount of OC that they put into the spray. The best that you can buy are the 3 in 1 type. They are mixed with OC spray (Oleoresin Capsicum; i.e. Cayenne pepper), CS Tear Gas (Military Grade), and some type of dye. These can be bought online or through a catalog (Streichers, Galls, etc...).

Stun guns can be effective MOST of the time. Usually you have to get close to the subject to hit them, unless you buy the fancy ones that shoot 2 projectiles at someone from about 15-20 feet away. These are VERY expensive. Some people can actually be effected minimally. I have had a student get hit with one at point blank range and stood right back up after falling from the initiall impact of the charge. I hit him 3 times and it barely effected him.

Preferably, take a self defense class. When I instruct, I teach my students the basics to get them out of a situation. The situations range from just defending yourself in a fight to protecting your life when someone is trying to take it. We practice scenerios that you are being attacked with a gun knife or hand to hand combat. The human body is a weapon all on its own. I also teach how to use everyday objects as weapons of lethal force.

If you have any questions regarding making this choice feel free to email me and I can answer what questions you have.

Pulling a fake gun will not add to your safety, and will get you killed.

If you don't have the determination to defend yourself with lethal force, stick with pepper sprays, and electric stun guns. Unfortunately in some jurisdictions, pepper sprays and stun guns are as highly regulated as firearms.

The brain sends a signal to the finger which squeezes the trigger that releases the spring that pushes the hammer onto the firing pin which impacts the cartridge shell which detonates the primer which ignites the powder which explodes, forcing the bullet out the barrel of the gun. Ummm...what was your question again?

Its a regular shot gun, usually 12 gauge, but you load it with "less lethal" ammunition. They have a million and one things you can put in a shotgun, from pepper spray and bean bag slugs to a slug that holds thousands of little needles(which kills 99% of the time don't get those!). Search for 12 guage ammunition and you'll find what you need.

You could try using pepper spray. You can buy it online at many places (just google it) and you can also find it at camping stores like Gander Mountain and there are several other places that sell it. I hope this helps. You also could try an airsoft gun or a paintball gun. They can give a person welts though.

Go to the sporting goods section and ask to see the line of Louisville Sluggers.

(they are baseball bats, and trust me, if you point one of those at somebody, they will more than likely run away, if they don't run away, only a real gun will save you, so bend over and kiss your a** goodbye)

a 12 gauge pump action shotgun can fire any type of projectile you can fit into the shell. there are plenty of less lethal loads that you can get. keep in mind less lethal can still be lethal at close range.

rubber shot-small rubber balls
rubber slug-looks like a "marital aid"
beanbag(filled with rubber balls or small shot)
pepper spray(sprays a short range cone of pepper)
pepper bomb(fires a bean bag full of pepper chemical that bursts on contact with the target)
rock salt-stings
flash bang-bright light

most are called starter pistols. Instead of bullets, they are made to shoot blanks.
