Some national chains advertise as low at $299 an eye, but when you look at the financial reports of those same chains you will find that the averaged cost is about $1,350 per eye. Lasik cost varies from about $1,400 to $2,900 per eye, depending on the surgeon and technology, according to David Harmon, president of the St. Louis research firm MarketScope.

I work for a nonprofit organization that certifies Lasik doctor patient outcomes. We don't provide Lasik, just Lasik information and certification.

What you will pay will depend greatly on your unique circumstances and which procedure is recommended. Conventional Lasik will likely be less expensive than wavefront-guided custom Lasik. All-Laser Lasik will likely be more expensive than traditional Lasik. Some clinics charge extra for "lifetime acuity" plans that provide additional surgery if required later.

Nobody wants to pay too much for anything, but you are talking about microsurgery on your eyes. If you can't afford the best available surgeon, then you may not want to have Lasik at all . You need to focus (pun intended) on the quality of the surgeon and keep price secondary.

Lasik works by reshaping the cornea - the clear front of the eye. The first step of Lasik is creating a thin flap of corneal tissue and moving that aside. Laser energy is applied to the exposed area, and then the flap is repositioned over the area that has been treated.

By applying the laser energy deeper in the center of the cornea instead of at the top (like PRK, LASEK, and Epi-Lasik), the wound response is different. The eye is somewhat fooled into not knowing it has had surgery. This is how Lasik can have very fast vision recovery and virtually no pain.

The price depends on what kind of lasik you need for your eyes. I had custom PRK on mine & it cost $1500.00 per eye. I had mine done in February 2007 & now I see 20/15. It is well worth the money. In the regular Lasik, they make a flap to perform the surgery, but with the PRK they scratch the cornea of the eye then do the lasik.

Had it done by Lasik Plus in Chicago....for 2000 an eye, with lifetime touchups.
Sounds good except there is a limited amount of times they can zap an eye.....in my case the touch up on my left eye was messed up and I'm suffering for it

Lasik is good and it helps a lot . No pain no glasses or contacts and it improves vision. The cost is around $3500 but there are many options also. You can pay monthly $48 and go. No interest and no downpayment for 18 months.

Thinking about Lasik?

I would recommend going to a Cornea Specialist. The average General Ophthalmologist spends a weekend learning the procedure! It s not rocket science but I would choose someone whose specialty is the cornea.

Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

You know there are finacing companies that help with the cost of Lasik? When my cousin got hers, she used CareCredit. The Drs office gave her 0% finacing for 2 years.

I'm in Nashville. I've seen advertisement for surgeries as low as 1400 for both eyes. I went with a doc who was referred to me and who I felt very comfortable with. I paid 2k. For me, the only scary part was when they put the metal thing in place to keep your eyes open. It didn’t hurt- I was just nervous about it. The procedure sounds gross- they cut a flap with the laser- flip the flap over- and then laser the back of the eye. They fix it by bringing the back of the eye to a more round shape- versus oval shape. It was over in less than 2 mins per eye- and I could see stuff on the wall still sitting in the chair- literally seconds later. I had horrible vision before- I’d worn glasses since the fifth grade and there’s no way I could drive without my contacts. I have very close to 20/20 vision now. Be forewarned though, you do have to be real careful with your eyes for the next couple of months. The flap on your eyes have to heal. So if you have a toddler- (I did) - you have to be super careful- a little scratch and the flap could mess up- or fall off!! There’s two kinds of drops you use for a couple of weeks that help the healing. One of the drops kind of stung and one drop was white so there was constant white goo I’d have to wipe off. One thing they didn’t tell me- I will probably have to use dry eye therapy drops (over the counter) for the rest of my life. I kept thinking it was just going to be for a while- but I know better now. It’s not that big of a deal. One drop every 4-5 hours and at bedtime. I had the procedure done 5 years ago and my vision is still perfect. I love it! Definitely worth it!!
