I am planning on moving from NY to TX and was wondering if anyone had any advice about gaining employment before moving. I am concerned about doing this since I want to make sure I have a job in advance. If anyone has been in this situation and can give me good advice, please do so. THank you in advance for your help!

Check on Monster.com Careerbuilder.com and the local Texas job link. Little advice moved there back in 2000 from PA, had some good interviews, the last question that came up was notice you have an accent where are you from, then nothing. In northern TX you can try Texas Instruments think you can apply on line but they only pay around $9 and hour for working in a clean room. Go to Salary.com and see what you need to make for a comparative lifestyle to what you have. It helps

Most employer doesn't want to hire people from out of state, because the relocating is expensive. You need to indicate that you will pay for your own relocation, it will get you a better chance at the job, unless you are in a very speical field.

Or you can move to Texas for a month to search for a job before you ready to move everything you own to there.

Post your resume on monster.com or careerbuilder.com

Several companies usually respond quickly. I live in the Houston area and know people who have gotten really good jobs from posting their resumes on-line.

Another thing...if the company hiring you knows you are moving from out of town to accept the job, sometimes they will help with some moving expenses or pay you a little more to move to that location.

Best of Luck!

Check jobs on craigslist for the Texas city you're moving to, and send them a resume.

Try using a Temp agency. They can often place you immediately or within a day or two and you can sometimes work your way into a permanent job with companies you temp for.

mami,

There are a number of career sites that allow you to upload a resume and you may tailor your search to a specific field, to the city and state you're wanting to move to.

Some companies will offer relocation assistance to those who move to work for them.
