You need to ask this question to the jury admin. What would you do if someone gave you bad advice and you ended up in jail? "But your honor, this guy on Y!A said it was OK..."

I would see if you could be excused from jury duty because this can be considered a family medical reason. I think that if you explain your situation, you will encounter understanding especially if the person you are speaking with has kids. I think if you look on your jury summons there should be a number you can call if you have questions.

I had jury duty about a month ago, and they said you had to be there no matter what. Well this one individual was sick and she had a signed doctors slip, she got out of it. If it is only jury selection, then tell them you know at least one of the peole they mention and you wont get picked.

Look on your summons. There should be a phone number to call. If not you can go and inform the clerk you are not feeling well that day. You will be rescheduled, or try and tough it out. Believe it or not the courts are accommodating to you. It's not what you may think, where they throw you in jail for not serving the first time called.

I dont know about Wisconsin juries, but in California you have to have a doctor's signature to get you out of doing the duty.
You can try calling the number they gave you to register and see if you can postpone your jury duty to another time. They have made it downright impossible to get out of doing it. Good luck with this.

You can usually call in sick. But only once or twice. Then they come get YOU instead of the guy you were going to judge ;<)
PS: Make sure you get the name of the person you speak with on the phoine and mark the date and time you were granted the exemption.

There should be a number you can call with questions. But they really expect you to show up unless you're just about on your death bed. I'd try to call.
