Being an Eagle Scout (or accomplishing several other honors, such as Girl Scout Gold Award, 3 years of JROTC, National Merit Scholar, etc.) can advance you in Army PAY GRADES by 1 or 2 steps, but not ranks.
This ONLY APPLIES IF you can document it to the recruiter AND the recruiter puts it on the paperwork correctly.(All the Eagles who posted that it did not help- was this step followed correctly?)
It also only applies AFTER Basic Training.
Here is an article about this: http://users.aol.com/coffeeweb/LO/faq24.htm

Totally false.
Just because you were a boy scout, doesn't mean you can skip ranks. You need experience and you need to pass a qualifying test....just like the rest of them.

False.
I was an Eagle Scout, and it made no difference for me. What gained me "stripes for skills" was four years of college and two years of graduate school.
But many of the skills learned in Scouting are transferrable to the military -- especially marksmanship and survival skills.

I know that if you go into boot with the highest rank in boy scouts...you have the opportunity to be meritoriously permotted one rank before graduation! But you have to go all the way in boy scouts or you probably will get nothing!!

Scouting is in no way involved with the military. Many skills learned in scouting can transfer very well to the military, such as discipline, survival, etc. And scouting is not a religious organization. It is sponsored in many places by places of worship, but it does not identify with any in particular. Scouting teaches reverence, not to God, or allah, or anything in particular...a sense of reverence.

Not likely that you would skip ranks - the military, NCO, (non-commisioned officer), system is partially based on testing. You can move up the ranks quickly if you take and pass the tests.

Well, I know people that have gotten pay raises and a few days off because they got their EAGLE. I think he might have gotten a bit of preference, but I do not think he got a ranking raise.
