Hello. My 12 year old cat has been ill for a bit now. I kept thinking it was just a touch of something, ut it has been going on for a very long time now. Over the past couple weeks, she has gone from being a bit thin, to no appetite and not moving around much. I bought vitamin gel for the pet store, and was hoping it was just a mild "flu" of sorts. I now am very concerned. She just lays and is having a hard time breathing. I do not have a lot of money for a vet, and the idea of putting her to sleep is very traumatic to me. Possibly someone may have an idea of something I could try to see if it may work to help bring her back to wellness? Thank you. Nate

I understand it's hard to describe ailments of a pet. I wish I could be of more help, but there could be countless things troubling your cat at this point. If your cat is having trouble breathing, that is NEVER a good sign.

Considering your cat hasn't been eating or drinking, I'm assuming it may have an upper respiratory infection. If a cat can't smell (i.e. breathe through the nose properly), it won't know something is food, even if you put it right in front of your cat. This can be a fatal problem if not treated relatively quickly. A vet can give your cat antibiotics to clear your cat's respiratory tract, which will eventually kill off the bacteria causing the problem. At that point, your cat will be fine with regular visits to the vet.

I hate to sound grim, but you should save some money and take your cat to the vet as soon as possible, or risk losing her.

I had a cat that died this way, and I would hate for it to happen again when there could be a way to save her.

Good luck.

There is just not enough info here to give you advice. There vcan be many reasons for this and it could be an easy solution. The longer you wait, the sicker your cat is getting and probably the more expensive it will become. Don't just sit there and let your cat die, go to the vets

I'm sorry, Nate, but you need to take your cat to the vet. This is part of the responsibility of being a pet owner. If you call the humane society, they might be able to refer you to a vet that charges less for people with low income. But your cat is suffering. She needs to be treated, and the longer you delay, the worse it is for her.

I think you should take the cat to the vet. They can diagnose the issue and discuss payment options. Most vets know that petowners don't have disposable budgets for extensive petcare.

I wish you all the best....hope kitty is feeling better soon.
