*Warning* this video contains distressing and upsetting footage of animal abuse and neglect and should be viewed with caution.
I like lots of people thought that a cute puppy dog in a shopping mall window or pet store was just that, cute innocent free and ready to take home with everyone happy and no problems at all.
But what I didn't know was how that beautiful puppy came to be there in the first place.
As with so many things in life, things are often deliberately hidden or tried to be kept as quiet as possible as so not to get people to interfere with injustices perpetrated against both animals and people. Puppy Mills are one of those things.
Puppy Mills are facilities where dogs are specifically used to breed 'puppies' for that pet shop window where thy look so cute innocent and sweet, which they very much are. As pointed out and shown in this video, dogs are completely and unforgivably subjected to horrible conditions, unacceptable living conditions, and just horrific and disgusting treatment to keep pet store owners and individual dog sellers in business.
Just as Charlize says in this video, for every dog purchased from a pet store that has unfortunately and most likely come from a Puppy Mill, there's a beautiful dog just waiting with time desperately ticking away in an a adoption centre; who all it wants, is just to be loved by a kind caring family and be a loyal friend for life.
So please think twice about purchasing a new puppy dog from a pet store, and please consider adoption as the #1 option for a new wonderful beautiful and awesome dog for you family; and together we can help end these unforgivable crimes and make the world a better place for both animals and people.

Yes, it is cruel. Unfortunately, it's not just pet stores. There are puppy brokers too. They are people who call themselves breeders and they are just the middleman. The brokers usually have multiple breeds for sale and don't have either parent on the premises.
People just react to a cute puppy and think "well, who will take care of this puppy if your not suppose to buy them". The problem can't be solved overnight but, if people didn't purchase these puppies the demand would eventually go away. Good for you for bringing this on going tragedy to light for some people.

Yes. Hate to admit it but my first job was working at a pet store that sold puppies...and it was horrible. They always got theirs from puppy mills. The selling of puppies in pet stores should be banned. They get 'shipments' like every other week from puppy mills. Crates and crates of puppies coming in the back door, crying and screaming after a long lonely ride. Some came in filthy of urine and feces. Almost immediately they are put into the window kennels for peoples viewing, shaking and crying, confused and scared. I don't know how many times I witnessed puppies falling out of high kennels in the back getting injured and landing on their heads, or the sad sick puppies there were hidden out of view and they just got left alone overnight. That's just a couple horrible things remember seeing. Remember, as a customer you never see the bad things. Anyways, I get worked up about pet stores and puppy mills.

I'm with you. I got dog from a pure breed rescue league, turns out that dog was a puppy mill product. It was a mental mess. Getting a dog from a rescue league is the second chance for many of these dogs.
The answer to this problem is to not buy dogs or cats from pet stores. This will eventually put the puppy mills out of business.
If you do get a dog, be sure it comes from a reputable breeder. My current dog came from a reputable breeder who raised the puppies in her home. She is the greatest dog. By the way, most puppies leave their mothers at 8 weeks.

I have to apologize, I can't stand to watch animals suffering. It literally makes me very sick to my stomach. It disturbs me mentally like having Post Tramatic Stress Disorder, I can't sleep, all I think about for days is that poor little animal suffering. I can see the suffering in it's eyes day and night. It haunts me, so I can't look at those things. I have in the past and know how horrible it is to watch or see, just for self preservation, I just can't look anymore.
I have a rescue Siamese mix cat that I got as a kitten, he's now over 8 years old. He's my little buddy. He's as attached to me as I am to him. Spoiled and well taken care of I might add. He's been stolen 3 times, and each time I've gotten him back because he's "lo-jacked" with a microchip. I couldn't even think of giving him up for anything or anyone. It would tear my heart out.
How someone can use a living, breathing, feeling, animal to just make money from is beyond me. They are the coldest, cruelest kinds of people. They should suffer the same fate.
Animals are just so amazing. They have so much love to give us. They trust us and we do that to them. How human beings can do that to a helpless animal is beyond me.

Unfortunately, PETA is just as corrupt as the puppy mills they pretend to hate.

you should check this site out, and do the research on PETA before you support them.
www.myspace.com/ingridnewkirk
Ingrid Newkirk's site, where she says she doesn't want a human baby, because having a human baby, is like owning a dog, there for nothing but vanity.
Do you really want to support someone that crazy??

Its really sad and unfortunate that people would go to such a degree just to make a profit and dont even consider the poor animals. People should really do something about this, is totally disgusting.
I for never do buy any of my pups from petstores, I deal with a reputable breeder for many years now. Its good you have brought this to our attention, maybe something can be done once people are informed of whats going on.

I'm sorry I can't bear to watch footage of animals being treated badly. I have to turn my face away from the screen or leave the room. It makes me me sick to my stomach. I didnt actually know what puppy mills were until I read your question. Yes I will definitely read more.
I got my gorgeous girl from the animal shelter, and she's a great dog. I'll go and have a look at the website. Thanks for this info!

Well, my dog Zeus was by a family who's dog became pregnant when a lab jumped the fence....Apollo was adopted from the humane society...Xena was from a neighbor who breed her dog....and my new puppy Bella was a rescue dog...my boyfriend and I were on vacation and found her starving to death on the side of the road. I'd rather get a dog from a humane society or rescue shelter than from a store.

Good for you.
It's not just pet stores. Many of the websites selling puppies are (despite what the site tells you and the cute pictures) selling brokered puppymill puppies.
