This is true, when the 80GB models start shipping to the Americas, they will not have the Emotion engine hardware built into the system. Instead PS2 games will be played through emulation (software), with a very low compatibility rate. The reasoning behind this is because it will cut costs and reduce production time. And they will still cost $599. So if you want to get a PS3 get it now before the 60Gb model runs out.

I think they changed the graphics chip so the 80gb model's cost doesnt get too high, also i hear Sony will stop producing the 60gb model ps3. Get the 60gb model if ur looking to buy a ps3.

The older PS3 basically had a PS2 built into it.
To cut costs they removed most of this and made the PS3 run the PS2 games(Emulation). Because of the differences in design this means some of the PS2 games don't run correctly but Sony are working on updates you can download to help.

They removed something called the emotion engine which is a part of the PS2 to deliver the Ps2 kind of graphics and they removed it to lower the price but it is not really needed because i dont think i will play old games and every new PS2 game now will be compatible with PS3.
