Fun stuff. UFO doesn't mean alien technology though. U means unidentified. I'm sure when they were developing things like a B2 bomber it was thought to be a UFO too. Its so different than any other planes we use. Every country and company have secret areas in which to test new technology (planes, vehicles, computers, all that stuff) that's away from prying eyes of curious people and their competition.

We have operated a top-secret testing and development site for aircraft at the Groom Lake facility since 1964. It's where the U-2, SR-71, F117A and other planes were developed and first flown in secret. Those signs you saw cite a section of Title 19 of United States Code and you could have been subject to trial for violating the National Defense Security Act of 1947 (as amended).
In short, it's a secret military facility and will remain so for the forseeable future.

Actually, area 51 has been abandoned for some time but they still use it to train security personnel and to give the public something to keep them guessing. They have even put signs out there that tell people not to look under big rocks. The guards get a good laugh watching the crazies running around turning rocks over.

i think they test new aircraft there. the government will never officially admit that Groom Lake (aka Area 51) exists because that way they never have to take responsibility for what goes on there or answer any questions about what goes on there and also because if they did officially admit that it exists then alot of there information about it would be avalible under the Freedom of Information Act (wouldn't it?).

just a guess but probaby mostly fighters and computers hidden at area 51 and one guy i talked to said he saw a UFO but i don't know if i can beleive him. its probably just more stolen german technology like the cars and nuclear powerplants you see around the world today.

very cool story....you should read Robert Doherty's book series "Area 51" they seem to tell a very good "fictional" account about what goes on there.
