I'm currently working at a new store and they are hiring about 50 people to help set up the store.. so I'm just a little concern that I might get laid-off or something when the store opens...

IT really depends on the size of the store. But I would not be concerned if I were you. In most retail start ups you tend to hire approx 25% more than you need becuase you can expect that many to quit. Your job is safe don't worry.

Ask questions to the recruiter, it's usually less than 50, and they'll need the most help at the time the store opens, unless they'll give pat time shifts, ask away!
